Monsters University – Teaser Trailers & Concept Art

Monsters University trailers
Great movie that Monsters Inc., but after watching it my brain was besieged by questions as to where and when mono-goggled goofball Mike and walking carpet Sully first made their winning acquaintance. Thank the stars then that those good people at Pixar have decided to resolve this restless riddle via forthcoming college-set prequel Monsters University (see Best Movies Of 2013), four trailers for which have just been released.

“Four trailers!?” I hear you cry, like someone badly misquoting a Two Ronnies sketch. Yes, this first teaser for Monsters University comes in four variations, but the modulations to each are pretty slight. As far as I can tell, a single line of dialogue, spoken by Mike in his sleep.

Still, who doesn’t like a Pixar sequel that isn’t Cars 2? Only mean old coots and their dogs. So get smiling, and keep that grin firmly plastered on your fizzog till Monsters University opens, on 21 June 2013.

Here’s some concept art that gives an idea what the rest of campus will look like -

If they’re going to do them I really like how Pixar are using sequels and prequels as a way of making very different movies, eg Toy Story 3 was their take on the prison break movie, Cars 2 was their take on the international spy caper, and this is the raucous college comedy. All very different to their predecessors. It’s a smart way of making sequels that’s too often overlooked, eg Aliens is one of the greatest sequels because it’s an action movie, not a horror like the first.
