Chart: The Biggest Ever Tuesday Openings
4.07.12 # Chart # No Comment
Who releases a movie on a Tuesday? Well, it happens. Typically because there’s a holiday near it, er, somewhere in the world. If Brits are wondering why The Amazing Spider-Man opened yesterday, on a very ordinary working day, it’s because in the U.S. it was the day before the 4th of July. And the studio was probably worried about piracy so all major markets have to open all at once. Make sense? Sort of. But which movies have had the biggest Tuesday openings of all time? Prepare to be surprised…
1. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) – $35m
2. Transformers (2007) – $27.8m
3. The Omen (2006) – $12.6m
4. Ali (2001) – $10.2m
5. Alien vs. Predator – Requiem (2007) – $9.5m
6. The Godfather Part III (1990) – $6.3m
7. The Great Debaters (2007) – $3.6m
8. Juno (2007) – $2.8m
9. Kate and Leopold (2001) – $2.5m
10. The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep (2007) – $2.3m
Note: The Omen remake opened on a Tuesday because the date was 6/6/6.
