Skyfall: First Q Picture13.07.12 # Sequel # 7 Comments
Most of the pre-release excitement about Skyfall, aka Bond 23, has so far centred on the prospect of 007, played by the returning Daniel Craig, going toe-to-toe with new bad guy Raoul Silva, played by Javier Bardem. However another point of interest is the return of gadget-dispensing guru Q – the new Ben Whishaw-embodied incarnation of whom has just been unveiled.
In Bond movies of yore, Q was most famously played by the late Desmond Llewelyn. And with the character having sat out the 007 movies since the Craig-fronted reinvention of the franchise, he is now back, in the pale ‘n’ skinny form of Ben Whishaw, star of Perfume, Bright Star, The Tempest, and also for certain UK telly viewers, the hapless Pingu from Nathan Barley.
The first snap of Whishaw’s Q has now been revealed, with him sporting big hair, big specs and a natty brown ‘n’ maroon cardigan. He also looks exceptionally youthful, suggesting that this new Q could be presented as some kind of boy genius.
Directed by Sam Mendes and endorsed by Heineken (other beers are available), Skyfall is out in the UK on 26 October and in the US a fortnight later.
