P.T. Anderson’s The Master – Full Trailer

Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Master has been in the works for what feels like the passing of a geological age, with the writer-director having initially struggled to secure funding for a movie which reputedly offers a loosely fictionalised take on the Scientology faith. However heiress turned movie mogul Megan Ellison stepped in to plug the budget gap, and now the flick has a first full trailer.
While a coolly askew teaser trailer for The Master had previously been released, the new clip is much more substantial, with us now getting a good look at Philip Seymour Hoffman in the titular role, as L. Ron Hubbard-alike Lancaster Dodd, and Joaquin Phoenix as Freddie Sutton, the drifter who falls in with Dodd and the cult he heads.
Set in the 1950s, The Master also features Amy Adams as Mary Sue Dodd, wife of Lancaster, and is due to happen in the US on 12 October and in the UK on 9 November. A premiere in competition at September’s Venice Film Festival has been tipped as a strong possibility.
And that’s about it. Not just for this news story, but for my own news-writing for Movie Moron. After more than three years of varying degrees of activity, I’m taking a break.
But not before I thank Sheridan and all the site’s other writers for their support, and all those who’ve read and commented on what I’ve written in that time. All the best to all of you, and I’m hoping to return to the site towards the end of the year for a few guest pieces, so till then – arf weedy zane.
