Where The Joker Was During ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – Revealed (Minor Spoilers)25.07.12 # News # 9 Comments
It’s not really a spoiler at this point to say the Joker isn’t in The Dark Knight Rises, nor is he even mentioned. At all. Slightly odd considering the impact the character had on Gotham. Harvey Dent is discussed about a dozen times.
Rumours that Nolan might use some spare footage to cut a cameo together, were just that. It’s also been said that, had Heath still been alive, the Joker would have been the Judge deciding ‘death or exile’, a role that ended up going to the Scarecrow. But events such as they are the movie is Joker-less, even though all the prisoners are released from Blackgate Prison by Bane. So was there a deleted scene, such as this? -
No, but the official novelisation released this week does reveal where the Joker was likely to be -
“Now that the Dent Act had made it all but impossible for the city’s criminals to cop an insanity plea, Blackgate Prison had replaced Arkham Asylum as a preferred location for imprisoning both convicted and suspected felons. The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumour had it, was locked away as Arkham’s sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he had escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.”
(Selina Kyle spends time in Blackgate Prison during the movie, escaping with the rest of the inmates.)
Do you think the novelisation provides a satisfying explanation? What part would you have liked the Joker to play in the story if Heath was still around? Let us know in the comments.
