Where The Joker Was During ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ – Revealed (Minor Spoilers)

Where Was Joker During Dark Knight Rises? - Answer Here
It’s not really a spoiler at this point to say the Joker isn’t in The Dark Knight Rises, nor is he even mentioned. At all. Slightly odd considering the impact the character had on Gotham. Harvey Dent is discussed about a dozen times.

Rumours that Nolan might use some spare footage to cut a cameo together, were just that. It’s also been said that, had Heath still been alive, the Joker would have been the Judge deciding ‘death or exile’, a role that ended up going to the Scarecrow. But events such as they are the movie is Joker-less, even though all the prisoners are released from Blackgate Prison by Bane. So was there a deleted scene, such as this? –

Where Was Joker During Dark Knight Rises? - Answer Here

No, but the official novelisation released this week does reveal where the Joker was likely to be –

“Now that the Dent Act had made it all but impossible for the city’s criminals to cop an insanity plea, Blackgate Prison had replaced Arkham Asylum as a preferred location for imprisoning both convicted and suspected felons. The worst of the worst were sent here, except for the Joker, who, rumour had it, was locked away as Arkham’s sole remaining inmate. Or perhaps he had escaped. Nobody was really sure. Not even Selina.”

(Selina Kyle spends time in Blackgate Prison during the movie, escaping with the rest of the inmates.)

Do you think the novelisation provides a satisfying explanation? What part would you have liked the Joker to play in the story if Heath was still around? Let us know in the comments.

no, that deleted scene wouldnt have made justice to the joker character..but i think it would’ve been a nice touch to the movie. even a mention about the joker’s whereabouts wouldve been something likeable. had heath ledger been alive, the joker and bane wouldve made this ending movie, very epic. the dark knight rises was a really good ending to the trilogy. i’d always been a marvel heroes fan, but batman begins made me follow batman..well just this trilogy. but i gotta say, well done.

kinda funny TDKR started out w/Matthew Modine playing as Foley & his most famous role that I know him for is Private “Joker” from “Full Metal Jacket”. Took it as a nod to not look so hard for Joker references.

Ha, nice connection. I think Nolan also has a genuine fondness for faded 80s stars – He cast Matthew Modine in this, Eric Roberts in The Dark Knight, and Rutger Hauer in Batman Begins.

Actually, the “deleted scene/storyboard” would be perfect if there was a little bit more at the end.

Bane Thug: Sir, there’s one prisoner still left.

    Bane: I know. He stays.

    Bane Thug: Sir?

Bane: He is the one spark I cannot control. Release him and our entire plan could go up in flames. He remains.

An acknowledgement that the Joker is so unpredictable, even Bane is afraid to let him out.

The judge totally because he doesn’t care who’s in charge he just wants every thing in a big mess and I thing it would have fit his dark Side too rather than smiling from in side a cell

It would be cool to have had him and have all the trilogys villains for a last goodbye. That scene woulda been a perfect cameo! Im also very much in favor of Toms dialogue fits perfectly

I agree with Tom’s dialogue, maybe a zoom-in on Joker’s cell and a sillouette in the cell, but no direct image of the Joker.
