In a pretty interesting move, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced that the host for the bash on February 22nd will be none other than Hugh Jackman.

And now to open the envelope.

This means that The Hairy One will be the first non-stand-up host since Whoopi Goldberg’s fourth outing in 2001, following on the heels of the excellent Jon Stewart, the entertaining Chris Rock and the enigmatic Ellen DeGeneres.

The reason for the decision? The Academy says “He also has style, elegance and a sense of occasion. Hugh is the ideal choice to host a celebration of the year’s movies – and to have fun doing it.” Really, it’s ‘coz loads of chicks dig the Jackman. Also he hosted the Tony Awards and went down a storm.
