Comedy Movies 2013 – Guide
1.01.13 # Comedy Movies # 51 CommentsZero Charisma
Starring: Sam Eidson, Anne Gee Byrd, Brock England
Director: Andrew Matthews
Out: 11 October 2013
An overweight and overbearing nerd who serves as Dungeon Master of a table top role-playing game (RPG) finds his role as leader of the misfit group put into jeopardy when a new member enters the circle. This is a darkly comic character piece with an eye for detail, exploring the tension between old face-to-face nerd habits and the online options, while taking its frustrated lead character down something of a ‘Taxi Driver’ path. If you’ve ever played D&D or similar, then seek this out. [Critics: 71%] [Public: 6.3] – Good
Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa
Starring: Johnny Knoxville, Jackson Nicoll, Spike Jonze
Director: Jeff Tremaine
Out: 25 October 2013
$15 million movie based on Johnny Knoxville’s elderly Iriving Zisman character from the ‘Jackass’ movies/TV show. The 2D outing takes a ‘Borat’-like format, following the old man (Knoxville in age makeup and high-waisted khaki pants) getting up to no good. Previous skits have seen him defecating in the street and pretending he didn’t know where he was, hitting on college girls, and popping wheelies in his Hoveround. This is MTV’s attempt to move the hugely-profitable ‘Jackass’ franchise forward where the loss of Ryan Dunn makes ‘Jackass 4’ an uncomfortable prospect. The grandpa was perhaps the weakest part of the otherwise highly enjoyable ‘Jackass’ movies, and he wouldn’t have seemed strong enough to carry a feature. However they’ve definitely kicked it up a notch here, and having an amusing young grandson to play off helps considerably. [Critics: 60%] [Public: 6.7] – Good
Last Vegas
Starring: Michael Douglas, Robert DeNiro, Morgan Freeman, Kevin Kline
Director: Jon Turteltaub
Out: 1 November 2013
Four best friends in their late sixties, who have known each other since childhood, decide to escape retirement and throw a bachelor party in Las Vegas for the last one of them to be getting married (Douglas). It’s ‘The Bucket List’ meets ‘The Hangover’. There’s a certain interest in that none of these cinema greats have ever worked with each other before. The script is just good enough but never inspired, while the director of ‘National Treasure’ and ‘The Kid’ doesn’t have the comic chops to get any really big laughs. However this cast can charm in anything so overall it’s a decent, if forgettable, affair. [Critics: 47%] [Public: 6.7] – Good
The Starving Games
Starring: Maiara Walsh, Alexandria Deberry, Brant Daugherty
Director: Jason Friedberg, Aaron Seltzer
Out: 8 November 2013
Spoof movie that parodies ‘The Hunger Games’, but also touches on the likes of ‘The Avengers’, ‘Sherlock Holmes’, and the Harry Potter saga. Walsh will play the lead, named Kantmiss Evershot. It’s from the writing/directing duo behind ‘Date Movie’, ‘Meet the Spartans’ and ‘Vampires Suck’. Urgh. For young megafans of the franchise only. [Critics: 0%] [Public: 3.1] – Avoid
Delivery Man
Starring: Vince Vaughn, Cobie Smulders, Britt Robinson, Chris Pratt
Director: Ken Scott
Out: 22 November 2013
An adult slacker (Vaughn) learns that as a sperm donor he’s fathered over 500 children. When a large group of them petition the sperm bank to reveal his identity, he has to decide whether or not to come forward while, in his personal life, his girlfriend (Smulders) makes a decision about whether he should be the father of their potential child. Remake of the 2011 French-Canadian comedy ‘Starbuck’ by the same writer-director. It’s a fun concept, a unique story and a good vehicle for Vaughn’s more dramatic talents. It’s sometimes amusing but never hilarious. Instead veering, pretty successfully, towards the sentimental.[Critics: 38%] [Public: 6.4] – Good
Apart from ‘This Is The End’, haven’t we already seen all these movies in the last few years? Etch-A-Sketch movie making
Not more Hangovers. And a pre-college Hangover as well. They. Are. Not. Funny. Surely I am not the only person who sees this?
JP must have the sense of humor as an old man that moans about the youth of today while sat by himself reading the daily mail!
no, he just like many of others see retardness in making every movie each year based on naked girls, shouting and pretending to be incredible drunk.. every movie same dumb story… how this is funny?
I think the best comedy movies of 2013 will be Anchorman 2, Hangover 3 and The Heat. 🙂
Identity Thief was terribly boring. Also Sandra Bullock is not funny, (producing & re-branding herself as a comedy actor) that movie, the Heat, is aimed at middle aged mothers, and whoever enjoyed Bridesmaids, which was funny but typical plot and not enthralling.
The incredible Burt wonder stone is really funny and has a learning lesson… It should be watched by people of all ages 5/5 abraacadabraaaaaaaa
A haunted house is funny as hell! and if you came here to find a funny movie from 2013 then “A Haunted House” is the one to watch.
Wow, I thought being a Friday night, I would sit down with my two kids, 9 and 12, and watch Hangover 3, we saw the first two and thought they were funny. Who in their right mind thinks it’s funny that a giraffe loses it head on the freeway? It just goes to show how sick society has become, especially in the USA, where so much violence is except-able, that this can be classed as comedy. With no encouragement from me my two kids did not want to continue watching the movie and I don’t blame them.
giraffe loses head on the freeway NOT SO FUNNY, waching the hangover serie with 9 and 12 years old kids NOT FUNNY AT ALL, those films are with alcohol, drugs, strippers etc…don’t now if your kids will be affected, but they will sure love that kind of life when they’ll get bigger, as you said bro’ ,, It just goes to show how sick society has become”
Ok, best 2013 comedy movies – This Is The End, Anchorman 2, The World’s End. Thank me later.
The Hangover Part III – very funny movie
blablabl blablabla blablabla stay classy!
I’ve seen The Heat and it was by far the funniest comedy movie of 2013. The plot is indeed a bit predictable, but the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy makes the movie what it is, funny as hell! Some only think of Sandra as a drama type of actress, but you should remember Miss Congeniality 1&2. I may be delusional and a bit subjective since I looooove Melissa McCarthy and have seen all her movies, but when I was at the cinema, the entire audience was laughing really hard!
Anyone who has watched every single episode of South Park since their inception….. finds everything else less funny.Trey Parker and Matt Stone are more important to me than ma MAths teacher.
the heat is only funny movie.
hangover is bothering me with same predictable story.
world’s end makes no sense.
I’ve watched most of the aformentioned movies but i gotta give it up for A HAUNTED HOUSE.Apart from that, Any movie with Paul Rudd, Jonah Hill,James Franco, Vince Vaughn, Seth Rogen and a host of e oda guys(U know the…Judd Apatow guys) is already one hell of a funny one.Put more than one of them togeda in a movie and……….Awesome!!!!!
This is the end.
THIS IS THE END is by far the worst movie, Marco said how the the head getting cut off of a giraffe was wrong wait till you see this sick and disturbing movie, I can’t believe people think it’s funny , a head gets cut off and thrown around , there’s too much blood in the movie, there’s exorcism, and stupidity, who argues about c**ming? They do in this movie, I hated it couldn’t even finish watching, I was trying to watch a comedy not a spooky film, it’s as stupid as scary movie 5
