Latest Comedy Movies 2013

With the 70’s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman Ron Burgundy reunites his team and takes them to New York to kick off the first 24-hour news channel. Having dumped his wife and son, after she was promoted above him, Ron embarks on a passionate affair with his new African-American boss. He also has a radical news idea that will take them from the graveyard shift to the big time: “Why tell the people what they need to hear? Let’s just tell them what they want to hear.” But after being blinded in a ice-skating accident, Ron starts to consider whether this philosophy really is for the best… Director Adam McKay returns (he’s responsible for all of Ferrell’s best movies), bringing the biggest ever news fight. Carell, now a major star, gets an expanded role as weatherman Brick, including an equally awkward love interest (Kristen Wiig). This is a more relevant film than ‘Anchorman’ with a stronger satirical message, including digs at the likes of Rupert Murdoch and what news coverage has become. It’s not as funny as the first movie, but decent enough.[Critics: 75%] [Public: 6.5] – Good

Grudge Match
Starring: Sylvester Stallone, Robert DeNiro, Alan Arkin, Kevin Hart, Kim Basinger
Director: Peter Segal
Out: 25 December 2013

A pair of ageing boxing rivals are coaxed out of retirement to fight one final bout – 30 years after their last match. It’s Rocky vs Raging Bull, for some yucks. The writers of ‘Entourage’ and Sinbad vehicle ‘First Kid’ team with the director of ‘Get Smart’ and ‘The Longest Yard’. It describes itself as a comedy but while Alan Arkin (as Stallone’s trainer) and Kevin Hart (as the promoter) provide a few smiles, really it’s a lightweight drama. ‘Grudge Match’ is passable as that but needed a sharper script to avoid seeming pretty lame in light of former boxing glories. [Critics: 29%] [Public: 6.5] – Mixed Reaction

The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty
Starring: Ben Stiller, Kristen Wiig, Adam Scott, Shirley MacLaine, Patton Oswalt
Director: Ben Stiller
Out: 25 December 2013

Comic-adventure about a timid photo manager working at Life magazine who lives vicariously through daydreams. When the key negative for the magazine’s final issue goes missing he is compelled to finally embark on a true-life quest, which takes him to Greenland and beyond. Wiig plays his co-worker, someone who often has a key role in his fantastical imaginings and supports him on his seemingly inconsequential journey. This is a remake of the 1947 comedy classic with Stiller updating Danny Kaye, and he directs too. His previous directorial effort, ‘Tropic Thunder’ was an underrated classic, although this is a much milder, more sentimental tale. The movie has divided audiences with most finding it charming and uplifting, but others see it as manipulative and overly driven by product placement. [Critics: 51%] [Public: 7.4] – Good

Not more Hangovers. And a pre-college Hangover as well. They. Are. Not. Funny. Surely I am not the only person who sees this?

JP must have the sense of humor as an old man that moans about the youth of today while sat by himself reading the daily mail!

Identity Thief was terribly boring. Also Sandra Bullock is not funny, (producing & re-branding herself as a comedy actor) that movie, the Heat, is aimed at middle aged mothers, and whoever enjoyed Bridesmaids, which was funny but typical plot and not enthralling.

Wow, I thought being a Friday night, I would sit down with my two kids, 9 and 12, and watch Hangover 3, we saw the first two and thought they were funny. Who in their right mind thinks it’s funny that a giraffe loses it head on the freeway? It just goes to show how sick society has become, especially in the USA, where so much violence is except-able, that this can be classed as comedy. With no encouragement from me my two kids did not want to continue watching the movie and I don’t blame them.

I’ve seen The Heat and it was by far the funniest comedy movie of 2013. The plot is indeed a bit predictable, but the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy makes the movie what it is, funny as hell! Some only think of Sandra as a drama type of actress, but you should remember Miss Congeniality 1&2. I may be delusional and a bit subjective since I looooove Melissa McCarthy and have seen all her movies, but when I was at the cinema, the entire audience was laughing really hard!

THIS IS THE END is by far the worst movie, Marco said how the the head getting cut off of a giraffe was wrong wait till you see this sick and disturbing movie, I can’t believe people think it’s funny , a head gets cut off and thrown around , there’s too much blood in the movie, there’s exorcism, and stupidity, who argues about c**ming? They do in this movie, I hated it couldn’t even finish watching, I was trying to watch a comedy not a spooky film, it’s as stupid as scary movie 5
