Amazing Spider-Man 2 – Paul Giamatti Is Rhino?

Paul Giamatti is reportedly in talks to play the Russian powerhouse, joining an already impressive cast.

If true, landing the name will be a win for Spidey 2, which already has Jamie Foxx on board as villain Electro. The Amazing Spider-Man was met with moderately good reviews, which, while no bad thing, means the next film will have to work that extra bit harder to restore faith in the rebooted franchise.

It might also come as a surprise to many that Giamatti has previously shown interest in playing the character – one of his comic book favourites – should a role ever come up. He told ShowbizSpy in March 2011: “If they ever go with The Rhino, I would be ready and waiting.”

The Hollywood Reporter also claims that Felicity Jones (Like Crazy) is negotiating an unspecified role for the film. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone will return as Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy respectively.

With Electro already in the mix, and Dane DeHaan playing Harry Osborne, let’s hope the movie doesn’t end up suffering from “villain overload” – aka Spiderman 3 Syndrome.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is due May 2 2014. Leave your best “Paul Giamatti is getting horny” jokes below.

I hope that photo at the top is not from the set.

This is unexpected and excellent news. I can’t quite picture how they’re going to do it and that’s what makes it exciting. And Giamatti is a huge talent. It’s so weird that he was pitching for it years ago.

I ended up enjoying The Amazing Spider-Man a lot. Sequel seems to be shaping up ever better.

I liked Spider-Man 3, I just thought they would make a fourth one, but instead they did a reboot.
It’s good to know that they’re taking this Amazing Spider-Man sequel in a different direction.
It’s also good to know that they’re having other villains like Electro, and the Rhino.
