Duncan Jones To Direct Warcraft31.01.13 # News # 2 Comments
Moon man will helm live-action adaptation of Blizzard’s video game epic.
Taking Duncan Jones fans and Warcraft enthusiasts by surprise, Warner Brothers has taken on the son of David Bowie himself to direct the movie, based on the script written by Charles Leavitt (Blood Diamond).
The fate of Warcraft has been hanging in the balance since previously attached director Sam Raimi walked away in 2012. The project is a huge leap for Jones, whose sci-fi debut Moon, and follow-up Source Code, stayed pretty intimate. With Warcraft, however, that’s not really an option.
The Warcraft universe is mind-blowingly vast, so it’s anyone guess as to what this thing might end up looking like – especially with Jones now at the helm. But there’s little doubt that there’s a huge blockbuster franchise on the cards if they get it right.
No word on any cast yet, though Johnny Depp has been rumoured for the leading role. We imagine we’ll hear something soon, though.
The film is set to begin shooting by the end of the year, looking at a possible 2015 release.
So the gauntlet was thrown down ages ago: Can you make a proper MOVIE of a video game.Ive always said its possible.Got to DO it now!
