Top 20 Best New Romantic Movies Of 2013

New: Top 20 Best Romantic Movies 2013 (Romantic Comedies & Love) Will you find romance in 2013? If it’s at the movies, then yes.

We’re looking at the biggest and best romantic movies of 2013, whether it’s about pure love or romantic-comedy.

- FEBRUARY -

Warm Bodies
Starring: Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer, Rob Corddry, John Malkovich
Director: Jonathan Levine
Out: 1st February 2013 (U.S. Release Dates)

Best Romantic Movies 2013 / Romance
Adaptation of the zombie romance novel, which made allusions to ‘Romeo and Juliet’. A young zombie (Nicholas Hoult, ‘X-Men: First Class’) wanders through the devastation of the apocalypse, craving human brains to get high on their memories. One brain he consumes helps him fall in love with the victim’s friend (Teresa Palmer, ‘I Am Number Four’). Soon he is rescuing her from his deadly zombie pack and their adventure together begins. Produced by the studio behind ‘Twilight’, it’ll be heavy on voiceover since the lead zombie can only use grunts and simple syllables. Director Levine is very credible after ‘The Wackness’ and ’50/50′, expect this to be smarter than you think. It’s certainly a challenge to make women swoon for a grunting, rotting zombie, but critical reception says they’ve pulled it off. [Critics (via Rotten Tomatoes): 80%] [Public (via IMDB): 7.0]

Safe Haven
Starring: Julianne Hough, Josh Duhamel, Cobie Smulders
Director: Lasse Hallström
Out: 14th February 2013

Best Romantic Films 2013 / Love Movies
Based on the latest novel by love-story-factory Nicholas Sparks, author of ‘The Notebook’, ‘Dear John’ and ‘The Last Song’. A mysterious woman (Julianne Hough, ‘Footloose’) appears in a North Carolina town, concealing a dark secret. Determined to avoid personal ties she still finds herself growing close to a widowed store owner with a kind heart (Josh Duhamel, ‘Transformers’) and his two young children. When her dangerous past eventually catches up with her, love, despite the risks, might be the only safe haven… From director of ‘Chocolat’ and ‘Dear John’, expect the tone of the latter. Hopefully the situations won’t be as contrived as parts of ‘Dear John’. [Critics: 13%] [Public: 6.4]

Beautiful Creatures
Starring: Alden Ehrenreich, Alice Englert, Jeremy Irons, Emmy Rossum
Director: Richard LaGravenese
Out: 14th February 2013

Top 20 Best Romantic Movie, 2013
Young adult romantic fantasy. When newcomer Lena arrives in a small southern town she quickly captures the attention of Ethan, who’s desperate to escape his dead-end life. But he gets more than he bargained for as Lena is a ‘Caster’, possessing strange powers that have kept her at a distance from others. Their forbidden romance is also threatened by her protective family, especially since she must undergo the ‘Claiming’ on her next birthday to decide if she is to join the Light or Dark side. Based upon the 2009 novel of the same name, the first in the ‘Caster Chronicles’, it’s an obvious attempt to start a ‘Twilight’ franchise, only with the female as the supernatural one this time. At a glance it seems all too silly to appeal beyond the core audience, teenage girls. The greatest battle may be Jeremy Irons’ with the southern accent. [Critics: 46%] [Public: 6.0]

- MARCH -

Upside Down
Starring: Kirsten Dunst, Jim Sturgess, Jayne Heitmeyer
Director: Juan Diego Solanas
Out: 15th March 2013

Best Romantic Comedies 2013 (Movies)
‘Romeo and Juliet’-influenced sci-fi romance about a man (Sturgess) searching for a long-lost love from his youth (Dunst). They are separated by opposite worlds, one upside down directly above the other, always out of reach. The world above is populated exclusively by the rich, while the poor are doomed to walk the floors rather than the ceilings. Visually the movie looks pretty spectacular and it’s certainly an interesting premise. Early reviews suggest it’s let down by poor writing. [Critics: 28%] [Public: 6.3]

Admission
Starring: Tina Fey, Paul Rudd, Michael Sheen, Nat Wolff, Lily Tomlin
Director: Paul Weitz
Out: 22nd March 2013

Best Romance Movies 2013
A straight-laced Princeton admissions officer (Fey) is caught off-guard when she makes a recruiting visit to an alternative high school overseen by her free-wheeling former classmate (Rudd). He has deduced that his gifted yet very unconventional student (Wolff) may be the son she secretly gave up for adoption many years ago. Soon she finds herself bending the admission rules for the student, putting at risk the life she thought she always wanted, while falling for her old classmate. It cracks jokes then veers toward heartfelt drama and romance, tonally going for something similar to ‘About A Boy’, which the director also made. But it’s missing that same spark. [Critics: 38%] [Public: 5.6]

I’m loving the 2013 romantic comedies! These are by far my favorite type of film. They fill us with a certain bubbly feeling that we, often, try to overlook; they display love and wonder in ways that a drama cannot. Love does not always have to be so serious, we should laugh in love.
