Rob Zombie Talks Halloween 2
18.12.08 # Sequel # 4 CommentsAfter some um-ing and aw-ing Rob Zombie will be sitting in the director’s chair for the currently-in-production sequel to his 2007 reboot of the Halloween franchise. The movie will be called ‘H2′ and Zombie has talked to Variety about the upcoming production.
The new film picks up right as the first remake ended, following the aftermath of Michael Myers’ murderous rampage through the eyes of the sister he hunted.
Zombie said it won’t resemble the original second installment, as the “House of 1000 Corpses” helmer continues to take the franchise in different directions…
…”I was so burned out. (But) I took a long break, made a record and I got excited again,” Zombie said. “Now, we’ll be hauling ass, and that’s the problem making a movie called ‘Halloween’: If you come out Nov. 1 or after, nobody cares. If it was called anything else, I’d be fine.”
I quite enjoyed the Halloween reboot, perhaps because I have never been a massive fan of the original film. It took the basic idea of Michael Myers that kick-started the slasher sub-genre and brought it right up to date with the current generation of slashers whilst also injecting some good old-fashioned grindhouse cheese. I understand that a lot (and I mean a lot) of people hated it though, so while I am happy that Zombie is directing this film (I have enjoyed all his films so far) I can see that many would like to see a different director take a crack at these characters.

Oh God, no. It really stinks when the ego of a man is so undeservedly great that he puts his hands on a CLASSIC, and decides to REWRITE IT. It’s almost like saying: “No, no; this movie needs some of my magic and wisdom. It won’t really be a classic until I take this great thing, which is someone elses original work, treasured and cherished by millions, and take it in a totally different direction. Oh, and I get to throw my friends a bone, too! I’ll have to write some special parts, just for them. They’ve been in all my mother movies, so they have to be in this one.”
Please; these movies are nothing more than a class field trip for Rob Zombie. He doesn’t care about them at all. He took one of the most frightening movies of all time and–wait for it–turned it into a Jerry Springer special. Wasn’t scary at all anymore after Rob Zombie got a hold of it. And now, of course, he’s going to do the same thing with Halloween 2. Oh, and I just bet he’s going to “take the franchise in different directions” — right back to the trailer-park, where the origional never needed to go. God, WHY?! There will be nothing origional about this new remake, it won’t be even slightly as scary as the origional, and to top it off, it’s going to be poorly written, CLICHE to the nth degree, and another insult to the HALLOWEEN series. God! Who is the moron telling Zombie he is even up to snuff as a music video director, let along someone who can handle doing a remake of such great movies? Zombie SUCKS as a writer and director, and now we get to watch him waddle his toddler butt through another classic, making a huge mess all the way. TERRIBLE news for Halloween fans.
