James Bond Will Return Within Next 3 Years21.03.13 # News # No Comment
007 will be back by 2016 at the latest, with MGM looking to announce a director soon.
That’s according to MGM chairman and chief executive officer Gary Barber, who spoke in an investors conference call about the future of the franchise this week.
“We look forward to announcing a director soon,” he said. “We are currently developing the screenplay and working with our partners. We look forward to developing the script soon and signing a director. We are hoping within the next three years it will be released.”
Considering that last year’s Skyfall was the only Bond movie to exceed the $1 billion mark – becoming the biggest British movie ever – it’s no surprise that MGM will be investing a lot in the next movie.
We have no idea what the sequel might have in store for James Bond, though the setup in the finale of Skyfall strongly hinted at who will be appearing alongside the Britain’s favourite spy.
Of course, we fully expect Daniel Craig to reprise the role of 007, with the actor having signed on for two more outings. As for who will direct? No more Mendes, but other than that it’s anyone’s guess. However, Guy Ritchie is currently a favourite to take over.
That said, Kathryn Bigelow could do a killer job at the reins of a Bond film. Someone get her on the phone. Stat.
