Stephen Chow NOT Directing Green Hornet
21.12.08 # 22:02 # News # 3 CommentsDisappointing news, folks: Stephen Chow, writer, director and star of the fabulous Shaolin Soccer and the brilliant Kung Fu Hustle, has dropped out of the director’s chair for the upcoming Green Hornet movie.
No official reason has been given for the change - “creative differences” keeps popping up - but the Chowster (can we call you that, Stephen?) [no - ed.] is still in position to play Kato opposite Seth Rogen’s Green Hornet.
This leaves the studio in a desperate scramble to find a new director as soon as possible - filming is slated to begin in Spring, with a 2010 release date. This is the latest in a very long line of problems for the project. What once began as being a George Clooney vehicle and a Kevin Smith movie, has become an action-comedy written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg (Superbad).
Just pray the lack of visual genius doesn’t damage the film in any way.

Say it ain’t SO! Dammit … now I’m worried.
There’s only one man who can save this. Where’s Joe Dante?
Sounded like a dog when Rogen announced his involvement and intent to make a comedy. At least Chow knows to get out while he can. Perhaps Chow would not disrespect the memory of Bruce Lee with the obvious comedic treatment that was planned. Now all Moritz has to do is get some serious writers in on this and do it the right way like the last two Bond and Batman films. The Hornet is not a comedy its a gritty crime story, the sooner they get that through their heads the better off they will be!
