Dodgeball Sequel In the Works

Dodgeball 2 - Sequel Plans
Pretty high up on this week’s list of things we didn’t expect, studio Fox has teamed up with Ben Stiller’s company Red Hour to commission a script for the sequel to Dodgeball.

Screenwriter Clay Tarver is penning the script to the sequel of 2004′s surprise hit, which starred Vince Vaughn as a gym owner who enters a dodgeball competition in an attempt to raise the money to save his gym. Hilarious antics ensued, assisted by the likes of Missi Pyle, Justin Long, Rip Torn, Christina Applegate, Alan Tudyk, and Ben Stiller as Vaughn’s rival gym owner. Whether the same cast will be reassembled remains to be seen, as the film seems to be still very much in a teething period.

It’s hard to imagine that it is nearly a decade since Dodgeball dodged, ducked, dipped, dived and dodged its way onto our cinema screens, planting a plethora of quotable lines into the minds of an entire generation of students. Written and directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, the film was a sleeper hit, grossing more than $167 million from a budget of just $20 million.

Tarver is perhaps best known in the film world as the co-writer to JJ Abrams’ 2001 thriller Joy Ride. He is also currently working on the comedy basketball movie Quantum Hoops.

Now let’s all celebrate with a beer -

It’s only when Ben Still is in midair that I realise how short he is.

I hope Lance Armstrong is back -

Such an inspiration. He knows you shouldn’t make a decision that will haunt you forever.

Lance Armstrong really is a great actor. Just so long as we all remember that he’s acting and it’s all make believe.

Who d’you think they’ll get for the misjudged motivational speech in dodgeball 2?

Hmm, an inspirational figure who will later be revealed as a total villain. Rolf Harris?
