Arnie In Talks For Toxic Avenger Role

Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Last Stand

Arnold Schwarzenegger may be lining up a part in a remake of the 1984 cult flick The Toxic Avenger.

However Arnie won’t be playing the part of the Avenger himself. Instead he’s circling a role as the protagonist’s mentor, The Exterminator (good one, guys), who teaches Toxy how to use his superhero abilities for good.

Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink is in charge of bringing The Toxic Avenger back for another outing from a script he co-wrote with Daniel C. Mitchell, who’s pretty fresh to the screenwriting game.

For those who missed the original and the sequels it spawned (the second film has a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, just saying) the Toxic Avenger himself is a school janitor who turns mutant after falling into a vat of chemicals waste. Well what did he expect?

The film is currently in pre-production and will start looking for potential buyers at this year’s Cannes.

“Our film is a perfect combination of commercial genre, star power and award winning filmmakers to set it apart from other titles on offer at Cannes this year,” said International Film Trust president Ariel Veneziano. “The Toxic Avenger is a blockbuster in waiting with franchise potential.”
