A Prophet To Get Hollywood Remake

A Prophet

Sony has grabbed the rights to produce an English-language remake of 2010 French prison drama, A Prophet.

Neal H. Moritz (Fast & Furious series, 21 Jump Street) will personally produce the remake of the Oscar-nominated movie, though no director has been announced yet.

Jacques Audiard’s film about life on the inside arrived to critical acclaim and picked up the Grand Prix at Cannes 2009.

“This is an epic crime saga with compelling characters and original storytelling,” said Moritz. “I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to make an English language version of the film and I am grateful to have the trust of Jacques Audiard and his producers, as well as the writers Thomas Bidegain, Nicolas Peufaillit, and Abdel Raouf Dafri.”

We have to admit that after Moritz’s work on the Total Recall remake, we’re a little concerned about what he might pull off here. And really, does A Prophet need the remake treatment at all? Let’s just hope that the director decision is a little more assuring.
