Man Of Steel 2 – Sequel Plans

Will There Be A Man Of Steel 2 ? - Sequel Plans
It’s been a big fortnight for the Superman franchise. So is there going to be a Man of Steel 2? And what can we expect from it?

The box office numbers for Man of Steel have so far been massive – $200 million worldwide in the first four days. But word that Warner Bros. was planning to fast track a sequel hit got out before the movie opened, with reports that it was aiming to get the next film out as early as 2014. That’s obviously quite an ambitious target and has been met with a fair bit of skepticism, but it’s not impossible if production on the film starts in the next six months.

And with Goyer reportedly working on the first draft of the second movie’s script right now, it could very well happen. However, while Zack Snyder and David Goyer are said to be returning, Christopher Nolan isn’t a certain, and considering that he’s about to start work on his next movie, Interstellar, we can see why he may not reclaim the producer role for the next film.

But what can we tell from Man of Steel itself about the potential direction of the franchise? Well there was a big hint as to which criminal genius might be turning up next when the Lexcorp logo came into view a couple of times in the movie (points for noticing the Lexcorp building in particular), and Lex Luthor certainly makes sense for the next Superman adversary.

And who will take the role of Superman’s best-know enemy? Well insiders close to the production have reportedly claimed that Snyder and Warner Bros. want Mark Strong for the part, though we’re yet to hear if the studio has made any him any sort of offer yet. Of course, Strong knows the role of the comic book villain all too well, having played Sinestro in Green Lantern, and Frank D’Amico in Kick-Ass. It’s expected that Henry Cavill will return as Clark Kent, even though he recently told ABC News that he has “no idea” whether another Superman movie is in the pipeline.

As for storyline, there’s a wealth of material that could be drawn on. A perfect example of source material would be the second half of Superman: Birth Right, which focuses on Lex Luthor and the destruction of Krypton.

We may even see Bruce Wayne show his face in there somewhere. There’s been a lot of talk about how Man Of Steel could help build the DC Universe into a Justice League movie, much like Marvel did with The Avengers, and Goyer has said that Snyder considers Superman’s universe to be the same as Batman’s.

“It would be disingenuous to say Warner Bros doesn’t hope that this would be the starting point for a shared universe,” he said. “And Zack has said that Bruce Wayne exists in this universe. It would be a different Bruce Wayne from Chris’s [Nolan] Dark Knight trilogy, and it would be disingenuous to say that Zack and I haven’t had various conversations on set, around ‘what if’ and ‘moving forward’.”

It wouldn’t be surprising if we saw Batman appear again before the Justice League movie then. Some other Justice League talk also came paired with the rumours of a 2014 release for Man Of Steel 2, with the same sources also saying that the could arrive as early as 2015.

Warner’s president of domestic distribution Dan Fellman even had something to say on the matter. “It’s more than just a franchise for us, it really opens up the door to do combinations of the DC Comics characters,” he said. “We can build them up like Marvel did and benefit from the history of DC.”

What would you like to see happen in a Man of Steel 2? Who should the villains be? Which other members of the Justice League should be involved? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

to be honest i would love see bale come back as batman, and to somehow kill off Gordon-Levitt. it would make sense for Bruce Wayne to come back from the dead (which he isn’t dead) it would also show that batman cannot just be replaced by just anybody.

number two for man of steel will have Luther talking about how bad and evil superman is because of all the reckless destruction that had been don’t to Kansas, and metropolis. its a nice jumping point.

but there are also signs in man of steel that green lantern might be getting a new face lift.

point of example Carol Ferris was in this movie aka STAR SAPPHIRE.

for justice league i have no clue who to use as the bad guy but a great bad guy to use as for number two would be aqua man, and how he would bring war to the mainland a the justice league would have to stop, and would then have him become a member or not.

Hi all, long time no comment but I’ve still been dipping in every now and again :)

I loved Man of Steel and would prefer to see a standalone sequel with Lex in rather than any Justice League crossover. I’m fed up of gigantic/noisy/landmark-crushing enemies in other films and would prefer a more local (Metropolis) film.

They can do other standalone films for other characters in the Justice League or maybe a combo of two characters. There is no rush for a JLA movie. I think its important to see each character on their own and learn a bit about them first. That’s partly why I don’t care for Hawkeye and Black Widow in Avengers.

I wouldn’t like to see a new Batman film particularly, he’s done for now. The problem is, you can’t really have JLA without him. Maybe Man of Steel 2 should have a small meet-up of Bats (The JGL version) & Supes where Batman can basically tell Clark that he’s not interested in teaming up and wants to keep a low Gotham-only profile

Hey hey Thom, good to see you back! I think Mark Strong is the most uncreative choice imaginable. Yes he is a good actor, and yes he is bald, but dammit he’s the villain in EVERYTHING (Kick-Ass, Robin Hood, Green Lantern, John Carter, Welcome to the Punch…), and he’s already Sinestro, the key villain in one of the largest DC properties. You can completely imagine his performance, and that’s not a good thing, you want to be surprised.

Mark Strong is probably the right sort of age but definitely an uninspiring choice.

There are quite a few variations of Lex throughout history, mad scientist, businessman, politician, I wonder what one they’ll go for? I can see him being a Bruce-Wayne-Gone-Bad type. That would certainly fit in to the movie’s style.

Hopefully the casting director won’t be going through their list of “Bald Hollywood Actors”, after all, I’m sure they can apply a ridiculously expensive bit of CGI to make any actor bald nowadays ;)

Interestingly Gene Hackman refused to go bald to play Lex Luther so they had to rewrite the script to pretend he was wearing a wig.

i agree with you. i think that Clancy Brown should be Lex. he has the look and the power presence. and a great actor to convince in the words of bane “The People”

I think it sound interesting that they’re thinking about doing a “Man of Steel 2″, but if Mark Strong plays Lex Luthor, than who will be the villain in the Green Lantern sequel?
I also think that it’s a good idea to have appearances of other characters like Bruce Wayne, and Hal Jordan, that will give some hints of a possible “JLA” movie.
Also the villains for that should be Injustice League, or Darkseid.

For Man of steel 2 Ithink it would be good if they made a film that didn’t suck and had a script with dialogue and a story and stuff. Failing That I would like to see Faora brought back as a stern mistress of discipline.

    To Zach Synder,
I loved man of steel, but I have 1 question. Will there be a man of steel console video game? Also I am thinking that batman and flash should feature in man of steel 2 and I think the villians should be Lex Luthor and General Zod and I think they should team up this time.
