J.K. Rowling To Pen Harry Potter Spin-Off Movie12.09.13 # News # No Comment
J.K. Rowling is about to delve back into the world of witches and wizards, making her screenwriting debut with an adaptation of Fantastic Beasts & Where to Find Them.
Warner Bros announced that the Harry Potter franchise will live on through a spin-off series based in the same universe. The studio approached Rowling with the idea some time ago and Rowling later came back with her own pitch.
She’ll write the first film of the series although it’s not clear whether she’ll also be penning future sequels.
The film will centre around Newt Scamander, the fictional author of the book, whose story is set 70 years before Harry’s. With that in mind, we wouldn’t expect to see many characters back, although we like to think that Dumbledore might show his face at some point.
“Although it will be set in the worldwide community of witches and wizards where I was so happy for seventeen years, ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them‘ is neither a prequel nor a sequel to the Harry Potter series, but an extension of the wizarding world,” said Rowling.
“The laws and customs of the hidden magical society will be familiar to anyone who has read the Harry Potter books or seen the films, but Newt’s story will start in New York, seventy years before Harry’s gets underway.”
No release date has been announced yet, so hold tight.
