This Is What Kevin Smith Saw When He Visited The Set Of Star Wars Episode VII

For a Star Wars superfan like Kevin Smith, a visit to the Episode VII set must be like reaching the promised land – and sure enough he came out the other side gushing like a Texas oil well.

JJ Abrams invited Smith down to the set, and while the man behind Clerks couldn’t say too much about what he saw, he was able to give a few small teasers.

“So we go to the set and they’re actually shooting, and they’re shooting – and this is what I can’t tell you what they were shooting – but what I saw I absolutely loved,” he said at the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland.

“It was tactile, it wasn’t a series of f*cking green and blue screens in which later on digital characters would be added. It was there and it was happening.”

“I saw uniforms, I saw artillery that I haven’t seen since I was a kid. I saw them shooting an actual sequence in a set that is real. I was across the set, there were explosions, and it looked like a shot right out of a f*cking Star Wars movie.”

He also got to have a look around ‘Stage M’ where he got to walk around inside the Millennium Falcon, which was previously leaked in a slightly-blurry photo.

Star Wars: Episode VII opens on December 18 2015. You can probably expect a few more news stories before then.

Anyone else thinking Kevin Smith is actually being hired to build hype /calm the geek community? Doubts about new Batman – Kevin Smith is shown costume and says it’s awesome. Wariness about five new Star Wars films in 5 years – Kevin Smith invited to set, says it’s awesome. I find it hard to imagine that him and JJ are great friends.
