Ghostbusters Gets ‘Male’ Reboot Too & A Universe

The Blob Remake News

After years of being trapped in hell, development on a new Ghostbusters movie finally broke lose, waving all over town screaming that it was going to feature an all female cast. That’s happening, it’s out next year. But now it emerges that there’s another Ghostbusters movie out the following year with an entirely different team, all male so far. Sony’s plan all along has been to establish a Marvel-style universe that will see the two teams combine in a third movie.

As we knew previously, next year’s film will be directed by Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) and will star Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It’ll be a reboot.

But December’s Sony hack quietly revealed that Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt were pushing hard to star in one too, which they hoped would be produced by Joe and Anthony Russo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier). Now it’s been announced that they got their way. Heck, you could put Tatum and Pratt in a movie about sewage tasting and it would make $100 million. It’ll be huge.

Ghostbusters producer Ivan Reitman, who’s now producer of ‘GhostCorps’ which will oversee the universe, had this to say:

“We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainmen. My primary focus will be to build the Ghostbusters into the universe it always promised it might become. The original film is beloved, as is the cast, and we hope to create films we will continue to love. …This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig’s film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He’s got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3) will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers’ next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It’s just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies.”

So there you have it. You wait and wait for a Ghostbusters movie and then three come along at once. How do you feel about it? Which of the movies are you more interested in?

With two separate teams, the question “Who you gonna call?” becomes a real one. Complete with comparing availability and which one charges VAT.

I’ve not heard of that, but there apparently there was an unrelated live action kids show called The Ghost Busters from 1975 and it also spawned an animated series in 1986.

I don’t see how GHOSTBUSTERS as a concept facilitates a “universe” at all.

It sounds interesting, but I’ll have to see for myself if this movie will be good or not.

I can’t wait for the next movies!

The female cast is strong as hell and good to see they kept it in the SNL family.

Hopefully, they’ll do the originals justice!
