The Uninvited reviews have arrived.
This remake of the 2003 South Korean horror A Tale Of Two Sisters (the highest grossing Korean film of all time), is directed by ‘The Guard Brothers’, two feature film newcomers fresh from the world of advertising, and the hallowed halls of Cambridge University in the UK before that.
The movie has a big plot twist ending, so be wary of spoilers on message boards.
Here’s what the movie critics are saying -
LA Times -
“The Uninvited is done in by a reliance on horror-film clichés and its weak story development. …[The original] created a deeply unsettling vibe with a sinister house and a host of deeply unhinged characters, The Uninvited settles for a grab bag of horror-movie tropes (the heroine sees dead people — and then some!).”
“Emily Browning, previously best known for Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, doesn’t have the depth to bring off the complex central role. …Cheesy rather than deliciously scary, The Uninvited never really generates sustained suspense. A-list talent produces the quintessential B-movie.”
“Browning…[is] an ideal heroine for a horror movie: innocent, troubled, haunted by nightmares, persecuted by wicked stepmother, convinced her real mother was deliberately burnt to death. …I recoiled twice in the opening minutes of The Uninvited, and that’s a good sign. This is a well-crafted film that weaves a story not as predictable as it might seem.”
The Uninvited currently holds a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, from 25 reviews. Compare this to 22% for The Eye, and 39% for The Grudge and, despite some complaints, it’s actually considered one of the best Asian horror remakes.

The original, “A Tale of Two Sisters” isn’t just a good horror film, it is among the best I’ve ever seen. It has the typical K-Horror weird ending, but the acting, character development, style, and “scare scenes” are really a cut above. Like Kubrick, who made The Shining more as a good film that was scary rather than a “horror film,” Two Sisters is this beautiful, haunting depiction of early womanhood. With, you know, scary f*cking ghosts and stuff.
The uninvited was good, i guess. it had a weird twist at the end. it was very dissapointing though.
the uninvited was a good movie to me. i loved the ending and the theater was packed .
The uninvited is different then it looks, but I am not going to ruin it for you. The movie is really good and I recommend you see it!!!
WON DAHH FUHH ALL movie. :] i loved it SOOO much XD
Loved the movie!Watched it when it came out.Theater was packed.Whole audience was really into it,people in the audience were bitching at the Step mom..and a big *GASP from everyone at the end!
This movie was garbage. The end messed everything up. I had to deeply analyze it and i still do not understand. I SO do not recommend it!
well this movie was really gud but the ending made everyone in the theater go wtf wat does that mean lol but if u watch it again ull understand it more and plus u guess ur not supposed to get the twist at the end maybe there will b another one…..overall its a gud movie go watch!!!!
yeahh. agreed with everyone else.
this movie was good, a bit slow at times.
but the twist at the end was great.
i loved their house, and the clothes they wore through out the movie.(does anyone know where they shopped?)
anyways, the very ending was a little confusing.
but the movie itself was entertaining(:
I haaaaate how critics say good movies are bad. This is one of the best scary movies I’ve seen in forever that didn’t have a stereotypical ending.
good sheeit.
Hi to all. I found this to be a neat little psychological thriller and much better that I expected. I am in agreement with Roger Ebert’s take on the film. I found myself waiting for the plot twists and was ultimately satisfied with the ending.
I enjoyed the shots of the house and lake area and, the actresses were not hard to look at either, especially Rachael. I guess by that comment you can figure out that I have a few years on me!
On the negative side, I don’t enjoy a lot of gimmickry designed to scare me. Most of it has all been done before and to excess. The loud noises, quick scene changes and sometime even flying felines are poor excuses for a well shot movie with a good story and fine acting.
It started out as your typical, plotless horror film, the occasional scene which would make you “jump”. To be honest it reminded me of the movie “Hide and Seek”. Both movies have the same thriller charcteristics, but can really suck the audience in with a twist at the end. Though it will most likely not be on a “classics” list anytime soon, the conclusion to the movie makes the audience think for time after, which I believe is the point in a movie. Contrary to other comments, the ending is not so difficult to comprehend, and saves the movie, rather then taking away from it.
I thought this movie was great.
Totally unexpected ending.
Very addicting to watch.
creepyy
definitely one of the best horror movies i’ve ever seen, though i feel like it was more of a suspense/thriller. i completely disagree with most of the movie critics which are obliged to bash about 95% of movies anyway… i absolutely loved the ending and it honestly wasn’t as confusing as some people are making it seem. in a nutshell, GO WATCH IT! totally worth 10 bucks.
