Friday The 13th Reviews

The Friday The 13th (2009) reviews have leapt out of the water, grabbed the movie and pulled it off the canoe.
The film is directed by Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw remake), written by the pair behind Freddy vs Jason, and produced by Michael Bay’s company Platinum Dunes (who brought us the remakes of Chainsaw, The Hitcher, and Amityville Horror). It’s co-produced by MTV.
Here’s what the movie critics are saying -
AV Club -
“…dispenses with the original film’s entire storyline [right up to Pamela Voorhees's death] during the opening credits…From there, it’s another generic entry in the franchise, as Jason slaughters his way through interchangeable twentysomethings…the lack of creativity in its by-the-numbers shocks is hard to excuse.”
“Friday the 13th” is about the best “Friday the 13th” movie you could hope for. Its technical credits are excellent. It has a lot of scary and gruesome killings. Not a whole lot of acting is required. If that’s what you want to find out, you can stop reading. OK, now it’s just us in the room. You’re not planning to see “Friday the 13th,” and you wonder why anyone else is.
“Deaths are plentiful, but kinda blah — hardly comparable to Tom Savini’s groundbreaking gore effects in the 1980 original…Of special note (besides the movie’s boob quotient and weirdly insistent anti-pot subtext) is Arlen Escarpeta in the ever-popular role of the Black Guy Who’s Toast.”
Friday The 13th (2009) currently holds a 33% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, from 30 reviews, compared to 35% for the Texas Chainsaw remake.

Friday remake look cool. But i have one other question I heard talk that there going to do Freddy V.S.Jason 2 any word on that if its coming out and when.
I haven’t heard any news on that for a long time. I suspect it won’t happen now. Especially as they are about to restart the Nightmare On Elm Street franchise next year with a new Freddy.
There will almost certainly be a sequel to the Friday The 13th remake though.
Friday the 13th was a horrible remake! First off it was pretty predictable. Second, I was bored out of my mind!!!! I was waiting and waiting for the theme music you know that (cho cho cho ah ah ah) to come and it only happened like 3 times at least in the movie. And the machete was BARELY used for the attacks! I mean COME ON!!! the machete is his thing!!!
More blood would have been nice
and more run and chase kills, when jason had the victims at his clutches they pretty much decided for themselves that they were done. Bad acting by the way….but that is expected lol. There were many kills but most were quick and little blood…and original. Nothing really exciting to keep you at the edge of your seat. blah and meh (with shrug)
What really bothered me was that it didn’t explain Jason’s background story at all except for the intro in the beginning and the story that Wade tells. I was hoping for more flashbacks!! okay so I get the fact that it was continuing the story in its self but still that would’ve been a nice touch.
The old school Friday the 13th movies were more gruesome and violent I thought. This remake just made Jason sink right to the bottom of the lake.
Sad!
i live in england and watched friday the 13th last night and i cudnt wait for the kid jason to show and ul neva guess what he ws a no show and pamela vorhess was in it for like 2 mins come on n for god sake jason aint really jason if u dnt visit hes background and his vorhess legacy jason vorhess is the slasher icon so scrappin his last nme and hes background has killed him mint film tho but u cud have done better with the above issues
I actually think this movie was okay besides the all boring death scenes. It was good touch to add alot of humor to it. I think they could have done much better on this movie because it really was a cheap rip off of the original and you can tell everything that is going to happen. The only thing I didn’t see coming was when the guy on the boat got hit with n arrow. Where did that come from? lol
Seriously? Has no one here ever watched a Friday the 13th movie? Nudity is a must for this series, so is alcohol, drugs, and sex. Without all that who is Jason going to kill?
And for those who say that it’s a rip-off of the original movie, No Shit. It’s called a remake for a reason; they’re remaking the original.
The whole appeal of the Friday movie is Jason, not his mother. The series didn’t take off until the second movie when Jason showed up. Honestly, who doesn’t know the basics of the back-story anyway? My 60-year-old parents know basically who Jason Voorhees is and they’ve never seen a Friday movie.
I believe that the remake did a good job with an introduction to bring in new viewers who haven’t seen the originals, and gave already fans of the Friday movies enough homage to the originals that they wouldn’t be disappointed. Bag-over-head mask (Friday 13th part 2), Hockey mask (part 3), grabbing through window (part 2) ect, ect.
And as a side note Jason didn’t always use a machete. Spear Gun, Various blunt objects, Stones, Fists, and the list goes on. Although the Machete is iconic, he killed with anything and everything.
Now, this rant isn’t to say that I thought this movie was the greatest movie I’ve ever seen, and no wrong was done here. But, through its obvious flaws (lack luster kills, and predictability) a good attempt was made to update an iconic slasher film for a new generation. The 1980’s are gone; we can’t help that (thank god) but the good that came out of that era, the true slasher film, needs to continue. This genre doesn’t deserve to be reduced to the caliber of Scream, Urban Legend, I know what you did last summer, it deserves better then that.
i went to the midnight showing of friday the 13th on thursday…i loved it. sure, it didnt really have a story or went along with what it should have been…but in the end it was a well wasted time.
to all those who think it was a rip off..imagine nightmare on elm street remake? anyone?…with no robert england? with the same damn studio platinum dunes?
im a HUGE fan of horror and needless to say…i wish everyone ( studios and so called directors ) good luck with the sequel and with nightmare.
(as i said previously about 9 months or so…bay shouldve sticked with robots transforming… it at least gives us something to actually look forward too. yet i dont complain because friday the 13th remake was very well done.
also, to all those horror fans that platinum dunes let down. i apoligize for them. the studio only want what they want. big time executives and directors dont care what you want to see or what you suggest ( i would know i submitted my script and yet…rejected) in my opinion, studios should give the chance to fans about their suggestions and comments and ideas about doing something better…no offense to all studios but i agree with everyone leaving comments on this very page………..
…YOU COULDVE DONE BETTER…
till next time,

They’re not going to have Robert England in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake???? WHAT THE FUCK ARE THEY THINKING? lol
I Haven’t Seen Friday The 13th Yet, But From What I Heard About It, It Sounded More Like Another Sequel As Oppossed To A ReBoot. First Off, Like Everyone Knows, Except I Guess For The People Involved In This Movie, Jason Was Not The Killer In Friday The 13th, And Did Not Make His Murderous Appearance Unitl Part 2, And Only Started Wearing The Mask In Part 3. So, That Must Of Been One Hell Of An Opening Sequence If They Were Able To Tie Up Two Movies In The First, What…10Mins? Anyway, I Was Just Thinking, If They Were Really Looking At Making A Reboot Of The Series, They Could Of Thought It Out A Little Better, Instead Of The Faster Moving Jason Idea. I Bet That’s All They Pitched For The Movie. Think Jason…Running
Weirdo’s…Why Not Just Go Ahead With Freddy Vs. Jason Vs….Hellraiser, Micheal Myers, Ash? Freddy Vs. Jason Wasn’t Gold, But Was Entertaining Enough To Sit Through. The New 13th, Sounds Like When I Watched The Rebooted Halloween. After I Heard The Theme Music, It Was Like…Now What? Swearing…Wow Rob Zombie, Your Good. Go Back And Complain About How Uncool Everything Is. H2…Why? Anyway, I’ll Check Out Friday The 13th, But I’m Not Renting It.
I saw the movie on opening night…I have been a huge fan of the franchise since I was a kid..I agree with some of what was said above…The movie at times stalled, and was boring, But Michael Bay said he was making the movie for the real fans..So you need to look a bit deeper into it…I hope I don’t ruin the movie for anyone…The underground dungeon/pathway to me at least translated into in every movie he was always one step ahead of you…No matter how hard u ran he was there, But in the undergound path.what I got out of it was that’s what he used to get from point A to B..Pretty cool if u ask me…Like when Clay was talking to the old lady she said all we want is to be left alone and so does he..To me that answered a question asked through out every film..How could people live there, And not get killed…The people left him alone and he never touched them..Remember it’s not them he wanted…Also when they go into his lair he had whistles,Watchs,Wallets..Trophys from his kills..Like a real serial killer would have..The first killings with the sleeping bag showed a creative sadistic side…That being said I was unhappy with the way he got the mask..I could of thought that up, And the way he died was weak…All in all when i walked out the theater i was dissapointed at first, But as I thought about it..It was good…A little creepy, And somewhat creative..It could of been better, the possabilities were endless, But it also could of been worse..Pamela Voorhies in part 1 is a nut, But they did ok
yeah for the most part, it wasn’t very good. the killings were comical. naked water skiing really helped this movie. i don’t get the ending, it’s typical dumb horror victims not doing the right thing and ending the damn movie, series, and killer’s life.
movie was good. a newer version of the old movie i loved it
This Jason was too human. Our traditionnal Jason, the one that made us fear each Friday the 13th of the calendar year was a living dead who barely never run but always catch you…The New Jason is simply a human maniac like we can find in almost any newspaper of the every day life. The good old Jason would have never set a Bear trap…and then burn the girl in her own sleeping bag…this was just way too similar to a Saw IV or House of wax or TCM….The Jason series went south with the “Jason goes to Hell”…and definetly became a joke when he was taken to space to end up on earth II…and in my opinion…it keeps on going down hill….
The new Friday the 13th was incredible! I saw it with several friends and we all laughed until we cried. It had a good blend of everything you’d expect in this series; sex, blood, scares, nudity, drugs, a hell of a lot of humor, and some pretty friggin’ wicked kill scenes. There weren’t any big scares, but if you zone into the movie, you might jump a little. There were 2 things that really pulled this movie together; the humor that some characters brought in(watch the movie and you’ll see what i mean), and the fact that Jason isn’t just a mindless killer in this, he’s actually got some wit, and guile in this movie. He’s very sneaky and they make him out to be a hunter. He uses the environment to his advantage, not just mindless decapitations with a machete. He uses different methods to kill each victim, such as; axes to the gut, running(yes I said running!) stabs, fire, trees, etc. I know you are all probably thinking, “oh no, the machete is what made Jason cool!” but I guarantee this movie is amazing! It brought the series back to life, and it’s better than ever! Some of the characters are thrown into perfectly humorous situations, like one character Chewie, And a giant douchebag, who pisses you off most of the movie, but actually pulls the movie together. I highly recommend this movie. It has everything, and I guarantee by the end of the movie you”ll agree with me, Jason is back, and Kickin’ more ass than ever!!!!!
