Some of these are amusing. I’ve seen the new one 3 times on the trot. Awesome slasher movie. Gets so much right so right. Hell Fest is pretty good too.

Great to hear. Feel chuffed that I called it in January. Been listening to Carpenter’s new score on a loop.

Been invited to a themed press screening of Hell Fest on Halloween night, which I’m rather looking forward to. What did you like about it? Also seeing Overlord tonight. What a magical time of year.

What’s cool about both of them is that they have humour but don’t have the knowing post-modern knowing jokey thing. They’re also both slashers without the whodunit element. I love Scream but it’s nice to have just a plain nasty masked killer and electronic scores. The Halloween soundtrack is great. More people should hire John Carpenter to score their films. His recent music has so much atmosphere, drive and pulse.

Totally agree. And with so many scores aping his, why not get the real thing? Although I bet he can’t be arsed. He just wants to play video games and watch sports unless there’s a massive cheque in it (see Halloween), he’s said exactly that.

What’s exciting is the massive success of Halloween could well kick off a 3rd slasher cycle. (Though I think audiences are actually just looking for nostalgic horror with recognisable branding, or well-reviewed horror, not one particular sub-genre).

Overlord was great. And son of Kurt plays up The Thing connection, you’ll see! Review going in the horror guide tomorrow.
