Street Fighter 2 – Sequel Plans

As far as the critics are concerned, Street Fighter is a crime against cinema. As far as the filmmakers go, they’re laying the path to Street Fighter 2. The movie ends with as blatant a set-up as one can imagine. So what should you expect from a Street Fighter: Legend Of Chun Li sequel if the movie does the business at the box office?
Street Fighter 2 will be set around a martial arts tournament, like that seen in Enter The Dragon (or the Mortal Kombat movie for that matter), bringing together all the Street Fighter characters.
Even those characters who “died” in the first movie might make a return, as Neal McDonough (Bison) mentioned on the red carpet, “No one really dies in video game movies. No no no, can’t happen.” McDonough also said he specifically wanted the Street Fighter: The Legend Of Chun Li sequel to keep the same director, which is an odd thing to say if you don’t think your character will be part of it.
Which members of the somewhat-bargain-basement cast would return? Seems like all of those who were asked, unsurprisingly; Taboo (Vega) – “Hands down yes”, Michael Clarke Duncan (Balrog) – “Absolutely. Because once you see a movie with these characters, you don’t want to see any other actors but them playing those characters”, Kristin Kreuk (Chun-Li) – “I totally would love to go in there and work on some more skills,” Chris Klein (Charlie Nash) – “There’s no question about it, to be involved in a franchise that has such depth…” etc. You get the idea.
One wonders since the first movie was the ‘Legend Of Chun Li’ whether they would pick a different character to be the focus of the sequel. Like ‘The Birth Of Ryu’, or ‘How Blanka Got His Groove Back’.
Then again it might end up being so bad you’re forced to watch the thing on fast forward, which would make it ‘Street Fighter 2: Turbo’.
What do you think should happen next? Which new characters would you want to see in a Street Fighter 2 movie? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

If the first movie was bad, the second would normally prove that. The person making this movie has to put himself in the gamers or fan’s shoes to see what they would want to see unlike a person who just wants to make money. The plot to this movie wasn’t the best of stories but it was solid, also the fighting scenes were on level with ” Dragonball: Evo ” action scenes. It really does question what was going on their minds when they were making this. You seen gen doing something like a fireball similiar to roshi in Dragonball.
Moving on i reckon they should make the movie with the same characters to not make it a total change but add more of that real spirit of pure fighting like mortal kombat. At least then a good point can be said but again the reality is very far from fantasy..
If only Ryu was the main character then the movie would have rocked. I haven’t even seen it yet but i am going to see it today in an hour. Please let it be better than the reviews!
Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li was pretty good, I thought. I mean, it wasn’t the greatest but was indeed watchable. I liked how emotionally driven it was (On Chun-Li’s part), and I wasn’t disappointed in the fight scenes EXCEPT when it was time for Vega to fight Chun Li. I knew he’d lose, but that easily? Come on.
As far as Bison returning in a sequel, why wouldn’t he? When he died in the games, he’d return in a replica body; Hell, he’s still doing that and we’re at Street Fighter IV. Lol. But I don’t know about bringing Balrog back. I’d like to see him again, but they’d have to come up with some cracked out way of reviving him.
I viewed the whole thing as a prequel to the first Street Fighter, although it isn’t officially. I mean, Charlie Nash before he was Blanka? Bison’s defeat, and then sudden emergence of the Street Fighter tournament. It had ’spiritual prequel’ written all over it. Or at least a prequel for the Street Fighter lore that we know.
It could have been better, yes. Hopefully, if they do a sequel, they see where they went wrong. I’d like Vega’s personality to be correct in the next one, really.
if they do RYU has to be in it and he has to be one of the best cause in some movies hes a teacher and is always the strongest so COME ON RYU KICK SOME PPL WITH YOU HYUKIN
Kristin Kreuk for Chun-Li Again but not as the main character.
I would like to see Charlie Nash become Blanka.
Ryu & Ken should be the main characters in the movie along with Chun-Li.
Sagat as the main villain.
Bring Vega back & have his fights last longer. Vega was the hardest villain in street fighter 2 for me.
Have Guile be a supporting character. (for this time a street fighter movie won’t require military efforts due to it being a fighting tournament movie)
Have better wire work. For me Wire work/martial arts movies don’t work well in American films.
A Big Budget. Atleast 80 mil.
E. Honda
Dhalsim
Zangief
Tammy etc.
Atleast have everybody from Street Fighter II the game come into this one.
i think the movie was ok overall, think the fight scenes could of been a touch better, the fire ball thing from gen and chun-li sucked could of made that look a lot better, dont think they should of used taboo to play vega, he didnt even look spanish nd everyone knows vega is from spain, all the other actors suited there roll quiet well, liked the bisen look, if there is a seqeul i hope they pick the right people for ken nd ryu would be good if blanka appears and hopefully he wont look like chun-li ball of fire lol.
i give the film 8/10
worth watching without a doubt.
Honestly, it was a good movie. The acting was off at times but look back at Mortal Kombat and tell me if any of them should have won an academay award and everyone loved that movie. I really enjoyed every second of the movie and i like that it was taken more seriously than the first movie. Of course, being a chun-li fan makes me a little biased, but i would love to see a second movie. Hope it happens.
I DONT KNOW ABOUT U GUYS BUT ONESTLY I WOULD OF PREFERED THE WHOLE TOURNAMENT IDEA I MEAN I LIKE MORTAL KOMBAT THE FIRST ONE THE SEQUEL SUKED BUT THE FIRST ONE WAS GOOD AND ONESTLY ONE MY FAVORITE MOVIES I THINK THEY SHOULD HAVE DONE THE TOURNAMENT FIRST THE THE LEGEND OF CHUN LI
I think the new movie could have been much better… if they took more time and put more effort as well as to mention it was inferior. In my preference, the sequel should be focused on Ryu taken as a whole and to be focused on the “ties that bind”.
The film would also look good with akuma as side cast showing some memory panoramas or shall i say flashbacks. On the whole, I think that this is how a street fighter movie should be, focused on two main characters per sequel and not five/six or ten. The street fighter fans and even other people get twisted in a negative way after watching a street fighter movie or even a video game adaptation. This sequel should prove that street fighter after all does not just look good in game consoles but in the big screen and to do this I think the producers should agree to make this sequel an adaptation retribution focused on points of views and opinions like mine as I suggest that the films would lay a raging demon on every single street fighter hater. Moreover, the new movie’s title presumably put many people off, “Street Fighter”… for this part I could also say that the sequel needs a different name excluding “Street Fighter”… lets look at how the latest “Batman” movie alters its name into the “Dark Knight” as opposed to “The Caped Crusader”. This should give the producer an idea of what it takes to make a successful adaptation to start off with.
Last but not least, the sequel being surrounded by a tournament just sounds erroneous, the producers are losing the plot, a successful movie does not rely on a tournament but does need some pretty damn good story, some good scripts which make sense and so fourth. This doesnt mean that the movie has to forget about cool, “Numerous” and impresive fight scenes which are extensive, grappling, surprising and filthy. But can also look at each character’s origin story. For instance, anime “Street Fighter”… “Alpha” and even “Alpha Anthology” in particular are great in terms of story lines. the scripts are probably better than that of the real movies. The movie would stun in a great way if it was about Ryu trying to conrtol his “dark hado” and also focused on the plot that akuma is trying to stalk him down. For the rest I say all the best and do not mess things up on this one or ever again.
Look, here’s the problem with expectation… most movies that I expected to be over the top everything I dreamed of and more – I ended up being semi or mostly disappointed after watching. Movies that I thought or heard totally sucked, ended up not being too bad of a watch. Here’s the thing, any film should be viewed without expectation. I’ve enjoyed more films not expecting too much. You’re not always going to get Grade A movies (e.g. Batman Begins, Matrix, etc.) however it doesn’t mean that the Grade B movies don’t have their place to be enjoyed. I don’t believe this is a Grade A movie; however, I think it’s worth watching. I think they picked great actors. I guess you could have had a little meatier more vicious Bison, but they definitely picked a great actor if they were going to pick an actor based more on character than on for show. Look, we’ve seen enough movies with terrible plots and tons of action. I think they did Street Fighter a justice by decent actors and story line. I think it sets it up perfectly for a Ryu sequel… which is what everyone is looking for. Before I couldn’t care less about Chun Li. They picked a beautiful and great actor for her part. I actually care a bit about the Chun Li character. And the ending just builds Ryu up to be the badass we know him as; and they’re setting it up for the “Enter the Dragon”/video game brawl we have been waiting for. I’m a giant Streetfighter video game fan…. and I saw what happened when they tried to do it like the video game with the Jean-Claude Van Damme attempt… total crap. This film is worth watching, the actors did a good job, and the story isn’t too shabby. Def worth a watch.
i liked this version of street fighter i was a pretty good movie. for the next one when they do make it it has to be a on point with characters, effects, and a good story line please. I pray they get a good actor for Ryu and they should put Ken in there cause they’re like the dynamic duo.it should tell of how they grew and trained together. I also believe that Guile and Charlie(female) should make an appearance to help the fact that Blanca/Charlie was in the first one.
For the sequel I think that they should cast Tom Welling as Ryu, I mean he doesn’t necessarily have to be asian because I mean he does LOOK the part both face and body wise. Anyways its just a thought.
I writing the sequel to STREET FIGHTER: THE LEGEND OF CHUN-LI simply called STREET FIGHTER.
`yes i belive it should foucesd on ryu knowin he is the main fighter of the whole video game
Yes…Ryu will be the main character in “STREET FIGHTER”.
