This was a very good, well thought out review. I graduated film school, and I don’t know about other universities, but marketing is an important part of the movie industry that really doesn’t get as much attention as it deserves. I was a comic geek from way back, so I automatcally realized what I was seeing the moment I first saw the Watchmen trailer, and my reaction was “Man that looks cool!” But I was looking at it like an insider. I can also remember seeing movies where I went,
“I have no clue as to what that could be about”, and I’ve also seen trailers where I thought, “I only need to come in and see the last five minutes of the film now.” But you’re correct, I think Hollywood likes to categorize things, and it also likes to hedge it’s bets by relying on director creds. Will Peter Jackson ever be able to make a movie that doesn’t have “LOTR” attached somewhere to it? Probably not. Of course now I assume we’ve all seen it, and I think it’s about as faithful as an adaptation could possibly be given the format. I think it’s mareting is going to hurt it a bit. People who don’t know anything are taking their kids thinking this is a superhero slugfest, and I’d forgotten how violent this thing was. We’ve all seen this tactic backfire on H-wood before. It would be a shame if it happened to Watchmen.

I loved they way they bridged different generations throughout Watchmen, both with props (like the floppy discs) and with music
