Monsters vs Aliens Reviews
The Monsters vs Aliens reviews have landed. Will it be ‘vs Critics’?

As a huge Aliens vs Predator fan I was delighted when they announced Monsters vs Aliens. I have deliberately found out absolutely nothing about it and look forward to going into the cinema and being very surprised.

Here’s what the movie critics are saying -

Variety -

“The concept is higher than the execution in Monsters vs. Aliens, a funny enough animated faceoff… That extra inspiration needed to truly knock this one out of the park is noticeably missing.”

The Hollywood Reporter -

“a jokey, action-packed movie… a clever entertainment that with its onscreen battles and old movie references spans several generations of moviegoing… Certainly the whimsical tale itself is A-plus.”

EW -

“showy but super-average… Monsters vs. Aliens sacrifices soul and edge for safety and bland blue goo.”

Monsters vs Aliens currently holds a 69% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 35 reviews, compared to 89% for Kung Fu Panda.

    WHAT!

You mean the whole movie doesn’t live up to that moment in the trailer when the guy scans his own butt?

Don’t laugh. That really happened to a cousin of mine.

Well this will be the first 3D movie I have seen since I went to Futuroscope (France) in 1993! I’m taking my three sons so it will be quite an event for us.

I wasn’t overly impressed at Kung Fu Panda and this looks cool enough to just about warrant the ridiculous ticket prices (£7.50)

i’ve never seen a 3D movie, have they ever actually made a good one? i don’t see why anyone bothers to make them…

I’ll let you know if I think it was worth the extra cash!
They seem to be doing most new animated movies in 3D but it does seem a bit pointless for some. A war movie or something like X-men or Star Wars would be cool though

Coraline is the first 3D movie I’ve seen that rocked. The medium enhanced the story. Usually it just interferes with the narrative flow so they can poke things at the audience.

Star Wars and the Toy Story are being converted to 3-D and will be re-released in theaters. Wonder how that will work.

I saw this on Saturday and I was very impressed.
The 3D adds a great depth to what is happening and really helps to make you feel part of the universe.
The kids in front of me kept reaching out at the screen to touch everything!
There are a few stock 3d tricks like balls bouncing in your face and drinks being spat out all over you but the more original scenes in outer space are great as well as the robot battle on the bridge.
Thankfully, the characters and story are also well rounded.

Glad you liked it Thom. How did it compare to their last movie, Kung Fu Panda?

Normally the kids in front of me are reaching out to put chewing gum in someone’s hair, it’s good that they were distracted.

I think this had more for adults, in terms of jokes and references to old 1950s style monster movies. I loved hearing the giant Insectorsaurus bug roaring like Godzilla!
Kung Fu Panda was very well done but completely for kids.
