BFI’s Comic Book Movie Season – Win Tickets!
19.06.08 # Competition # No Comment
Live in London? If so there’s a treat in store this summer. The BFI are putting on a whole season of comic book movies, celebrating a genre often unfairly dismissed as mindless entertainment.
The screenings run from July to the end of August and cover everything from Clark Kent to psychedelic adaptations of European comic strips.
In July alone they’re showing Akira (seminal, jaw-dropping anime), 300 (at the IMAX), Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm, Danger: Diabolik (imaginative and over-the-top Italian comic adaptation), Dick Tracy, Flash Gordon, Modesty Blaise (extravagant slice of ‘60s camp with Monica Vitti), Mystery Men, Popeye, The Rocketeer, V For Vendetta (@IMAX), and Richard Donner’s Superman.
July caps off with the insane/brilliant Saturday night X-Men trilogy all nighter at the IMAX, starting at 11:30pm (!!!!)

If there’s one thing all these films have in common, it’s that they were absolutely meant to be seen on the big screen, and this may be the only chance you’ll get.
For the full programme see www.bfi.org.uk/comics (‘Graphic Images: Comic-Book Movies’).
To win a pair of tickets to one of these, simply e-mail moviemoronnewsletter@googlemail.com with the answer to this question:
- Which character did Halle Berry play in X Men?
