Dragonball 2 - Sequel Plans
A fair bit of Dragonball 2 talk has been thrown around in recent weeks. So what has been said and how likely is a Dragonball sequel?

Justin Chatwin (Goku) revealed earlier this month that a draft of the sequel script is already written, “They’ve written a second one and it’s pretty far out there. It really goes to some different places that I’ve never seen in any comic book adaptation.”

James Marsters (Piccolo) would like to see the franchise run and run. He claims to be a die-hard fan of the anime and wants to fulfil the arc of Piccolo in live-action. “We’re going to get to ‘Dragonball Z’ later,” he says, “where Piccolo becomes youthful and he’s going to become the Piccolo that most people recognize.”

For what it’s worth, imdb is listing a sequel called Dragonball: Reborn, with a release date of 2011.

What are the odds of Dragonball 2 getting a theatrical release? The first movie opened well in Asia, but sunk like a stone in its second week as bad word of mouth spread. It isn’t anything like as popular in the U.S. (where it opens this weekend), and Street Fighter tanked last month. It would seem likely at this point any sequel will be straight to DVD.

What would you like to see happen in Dragonball 2? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

I once wrote a short story about an especially nasty zit on the side of my nose and my many attempts to pop it. I should dig that sucker out of storage. It has to be better than this.

Okay to all you people that didn’t like the movie. That is your opinion. Granted it could have been much better I did like it anyhow. I am a die hard Dragon Ball fan. I did not have high hopes in it and the first time watching was unimpressed but I watched it a few times now and it really grew on me. I want there to be a sequel. The same people who like to complain on fan pages are the same ones who complained about the show Heroes and got that shut down. Hey just because you don’t like it don’t try to ruin the experience of enjoying more flicks for the people who do.

Yeah now that i’ve read Akira’s interveiw I don’t feel so bad about wathching it. I like his point of view.(ALOT)

IT IS SUPPOSE TO BE A DEPARTURE FROM ITS SOURCE MATERIAL.
THEY WERE TRYING SOMETHING DIFFERENT; FAILED MISERABLEY BUT TRIED NON THE LESS.

NOT TO MENTION THE INCREDIBLY SHORT PRODUCTION TIME. YOU CAN’T JUST SPEND A YEAR OR TWO ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS, AND EXPECT PEOPLE TO ASSUME YOU DID THE ABSOLUTE BEST YOU COULD. YOU HAVE TO APROACH IT LIKE YOU WOULD A (MARVEL) MOVIE IN AMERICA.

I EQUIVILATE AKIRA TORIYAMA OF JAPAN TO TO THE STAN LEE OF AMERICA.

ESPECIALY TO A BELOVED SERIES LIKE THIS. TIME MANAGEMENT WAS A WEAKNESS THIS TIME.

But I could’ve written better for crying out loud!
What they failed to do in advance is distinguish it from the hype that came out prior to the release. I swear the industry has gotten soft in that regard.

They needed a short commercial or service announcement to get that fact out to the fan populace DIEHARD or not.

I was hopeing for more fantasy than reality as far as the structure of the movie world they set it in.

I still wish they kept the ending where goku punched through piccolo’s stomach, and he spat out an egg. If that had happend I would have been totally happy.

Instead they did energy balls with no struggle, they set the exchange up too heroicly.

Could they make the fighting on the dragon ball movie like the 3th matrix movie because i think if they make the fighting just like that then that would be so cool !??

I agree with Nick A. I am a fan of dragon ball and dragon ball z and I really enjoyed the movie. I wish another one will come out. People shouldn’t expect the first movie to be a big success when it is introducing all the characters for the first timers. Look at the first Twilight…boring……but interesting and it made me look forward for the next cause I know it can only get better and better which it did and look at it now….Keep going with the Dragonball movies!!!!!!!!!!

i’m not goin to say i hate the movie and i’m not goin to say i liked it either. It’s not as bad as i thought it was goin to be and not as good either. i actually think it was an ok oppening of the movies. but it could have been better. i am a huge fan of the show. if they do do a sequel, want to see action and more of the funny stuff they do in the show. i know alot of people are realy dissapointed about it and i respect that. that is their choice. just don’t say stuff like they should be buried alive if they liked it. it’s stupid. everyone has their own likes and dislikes. if you didn’t like it just say i didn’t like it and leave it at that. otherwise your just beeing imature. there were good things about it and bad things just like any movie. i would like to see more of piccolo in the next one. and more of a battle between goku and piccolo. and bring krillin in to it somehow.

Ok, all the immaturity talk aside. The movie sucked beyond belief, and they should burn the script for the sequel. I don’t see how anyone who claims to be a fan can say they liked any part of the movie. Its not dragon ball at all. I respect if you say u liked some of it, whateveer, but don’t say you’re a huge fan of the show. That’s an insult to real fans.

something as big as dragonball cant be squeezed in an hour nd 10 mins, or however long it was. Like millions of other fans around the world i was really excited to see the movie adaption of the fantastic series we grew up with, but they tried to put too much into one film, but at the same time not enough. Very disappointing, they could hav made it so much better! If they do more i hope they make a better job.

I agree with the previous post. The first one was way too rushed, no character development, bad acting, bad looking sets, etc. If they plan on making a second movie they need to really put time and money into it, if it has any chance at all of being a hit. If they do it right, it could be one of the best action movies yet. that is IF they do it right

The only good thing about the first film is that if you sit down and watch it with some friends and a ton of booze, you could turn a disaster into a fun drinking game!
You just take a drink or shot everytime you see or hear something in the film that shouldn’t be there or has been altered! WARNING: may cause alcohol poisioning within the first 3 minutes…

I was very disappointed with the first one, i just couldn’t bring my self to really like it and believe me i tried to like it. I am a big DB fan and i was excited to see a movie coming out but fox ruined it. Now i have to say that i completely hated it cause i watched the whole movie without turning it off but to me it just wasn’t good enough to be a dragonball movie. So in my opinion i don’t think they should be doing a sequel unless they are gonna do things right and stay more true to the story. I understand that they have to change some things but i have to say what were they thinking doing it like that. They should do a remake to give DB the movie it deserves instead of making a sequel, that way when they make more movies people will be excited to see sequels coming and wanting to see them not discussing if there should be a sequel. I think DB could be big in movies they just have to do it the right way and maybe get new people to do it and do it right.

I’m trying to ignore the existence of this movie like my fiancee is ignoring Twilight. I love Dragonball, but this movie has always looked horrible. I believe a good producer, director staff and actors could most definitely make a great DB movie with some adjustments. For example, the fights couldn’t take 20 episodes (or 10 hrs) but they could make it obvious the fights are long w/o consuming the entire film. But, would a decent director and writers sign on?

honestly i wished this move didnt exist. i love dragon ball but this was total crap.i agree with overkill they should throw this one away and just totally redo it.i seen a home short live action movie of dbz the charcters looked funny but the action was 10 times better then the dragon ball movie.if some joe smoe can make stuff like that y couldn a giant multymillion dollar company do this right.honestly they used us to make a quick mill

If (and I do mean “IF”)this movie ever gets made for a theatrical release, this will be the perfect opportunity to start over from scratch and do the series as well as the fans some justice. I’m talking total RETCON here. Replace the role of Goku and go with someone a little more credible. He doesn’t necessarily have to be established or well known for that matter, but at least “credible” for the character. That kid with the funny hair-do just wasn’t cutting it. He looked like someone who had a bad day at the hair dresser and should have asked for a refund.

Part two is where you learn from the mistakes of the past and realize that this movie is all about the fans, and as fans wed simply ask for one thing and one thing only: stop trying to bring the cheesiness from the cartoon (which was endearing) to the big screen and give us a story that is plausible and has depth. It’s not just about the fights (although they make Dragonball what it is). It’s also about the heart of the character and how he struggles with maintaining his innocence and carefree nature in the face of true evil while coming into the powers of a demi-god. The episodes when Frieza wounded Picolo and killed Krillin, were the best scenes in the whole sage because we felt Goku struggle with that desperation, hatred, and rage as he was faced with hopelessness. When he finally did transform…CLASSIC! Give us that type of movie instead of trying to pander to promoting toys and other wack commercialism. Take a cue from the Wachowski brothers and the success they had with “The Matrix”. A film that initially had no big promotional advertising but turned out to be an awesome story that has gone on to cult status. One could see the passion that went into that movie before they lost their minds hollywood-style and totally screwed the pooch with the other two. Fans would love to see that same passion develop into a trilogy based on Dragonball Z as we see Goku finally fulfill his destiny and become a Super Saiyan. Stop trying to cram the entire series into a 2 hour frame and spread it out like Peter Jackson did with Lord of the Rings. Or maybe they should hire him to write the next script so it would really be worth seeing.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again… This movie can be brought to the big screen and done right. The technology exists to bring every awesome fight scene and every awesome transformation to reality. It would just take an amazing set of writers and a passionate director to give it life. The question though is “Do you continue to churn out garbage just for the sake of a check, or do you put a little thought and effort into this next project and see it become (in the words of Barney Stinson…) AWESOME?!”

i’m not a very big fan of the movie at all and im surprised that they’re even planning on making a sequel but I think that the sequel should be like this:
Piccolo Jr. is the villain throughout half the movie then him and Goku become allies at the end to battle Raditz.
Somehow, Krillan and Tien should have appearances in the movie. at the end of the movie, there should be a cliffhanger with Vegeta, Nappa and Frieza.

I agree with what everyone is saying about the bad acting and the real short time in the film.
I think that there should be a reboot because DBE has already screwed the chance of there being a big franchise. Because of DBE, people wont bother watching Dragon Ball Reborn which means that not enough money will be made to make a third movie.

maybe there should just be a live action tv show of Dragon Ball. i think that theres just too much to put into 1 film.

A live action tv show wouldn’t work because they’d just screw it up like they did with Smallville and start cutting out all the action and visual effects to save money. And we all know that DBZ is all about the action and the visual effects. What I love about DBZ is that the characters will say one or two sentences then commence with the holy beatdowns. It has to be a trilogy in order to get everything in that matters.
