Star Trek Soundtrack

Boldy going where many have been before is the Star Trek soundtrack.
Composer Michael Giacchino started in video games, with the likes of Lost World: Jurassic Park and the Medal Of Honor series. His work on the Alias game got him noticed by J.J. Abrams who transferred him to the show. Giacchino has been Abrams’ go to guy ever since, scoring Lost, Fringe and Abrams’ first feature Mission Impossible III.
When it comes to Star Trek there are some very big composer boots to fill. The late, great Jerry Goldsmith scored five of the movies (I, V, First Contact, Insurrection, and Nemesis), while James Horner took on II and III. In fact Nemesis was Jerry Goldsmith’s penultimate movie score and stands well above the film it was attached to.
From what’s in evidence here the new Star Trek soundtrack is epic, modern and keeps both the original TV theme and Goldsmith’s movie theme, at least for the end credits.
Rarely do you notice a soundtrack more than when it’s accompanying a vast vista of infinite space, and so this is virtually the biggest stage a film composer can have. If the movie is as successful as advance buzz suggests, it will be down in no small part to Giacchino’s work.

I was hoping for a soundtrack done purely by nickelback and creed, because they are truly out of this world!!!
(im kidding by the way)
A longtime fan of film scores, I was eager to hear the new STAR TREK soundtrack by Michael Giacchino. Having just finished listening to the CD, I will have to say that this one is going to have to grow on me. While I am sure that the music fits the scenes the tracks correspond to, as a whole it was rather unsatisfying. There only seems to be one major theme underlying the entire album, and no matter how good or well done that theme is, it gets boring after a while…
I think the score was amazing…while there may be only one major theme when you hear the score in the movie it is mindblowing….the movie was awesome and the music was equally so
I thought this was derivative cue music….the whole soundtrack.
I have a big problem: Giacchino “borrowed” ideas from previous action pieces in other Star Trek films, most notably the second one.
I know all about the homage idea, but he didn’t borrow the actual music…just the idea of the music. To which point his own material did not develop into anything even close to the previous film’s music.
This is the same problem I had with the Superman soundtrack of late.
“Good composers borrow. Great composers steal!”

What is the name of the song and the band that performs the song that is playing on the radio in the corvette that young Kirk is driving in the begining of the movie?
that would be sabotage by the beastie boys
GIL— It is Sabotage by the Beastie Boys
What isthe name of the song that plays at the beginning? Before it even shows cpt. Kirks ship?
Does anyone know the name/group of the song at the beginning of the bar scene? It seems like the camera is leading up into the bar as the song begins. Thanks.
There is a song in one of the previews for the movie but im not sure if it is a re composure of requim for a dream by mozart. does anyone know? I really liked it
Did anybody find out about the artist/song name playing in the beginning of the bar scene?
Thought the composer did a great job capturing the movies scenes. Good mix of familiar soundtrack music & music that was unique to this film. End title music was well done with the original score.
