Max Payne Trailer

The first trailer for Max Payne, starring Mark Wahlberg, has hit the nets. Based on the popular video game series of the same name, the movie revolves around an undercover New York City detective investigating a powerful crime family responsible for the murder of the his wife and child. Not being big into video games, that pretty much covers all I know about the plot.

The trailer does look pretty stylish, with a cool Sin City pulp-noir vibe and lots of fancy slow-motion shots, which the game was (apparently) known for. I have to admit being a bit confused by the winged… men? creatures? who show up throughout the trailer; from what I understood, the story was a fairly standard crime saga. Is there a supernatural element to the story I wasn’t aware of?

Regardless, this looks like the type of movie that’s either going to be a lot of fun, or absolutely wretched.

Max Payne is directed by John Moore, the man responsible for Behind Enemy Lines and the (terrible) Omen remake, and co-stars Mila Kunis, Beau Bridges and Chris O’Donnell. It opens October 17th.

This was a ground breaking video game for the PC when it came out, very cool. Like most video game-movies I am sure itll suck. Seems to be a black hole for movie makers.

I dunno, Marky Mark has been coming out with gold lately, I dont think he would do a crap video game remake, this isnt mortal kombat or streetfighters, max payne actually had a story, Wahlberg has too much brains to commit career suicide straight after a run of good ones

    Timothy’s Max Payne Movie Review
I saw the Max Payne movie and it was terrible. The beginning of the movie with him in the water a week after most of the events that happened later in the movie was unnecessary. The movie wasn’t dark enough and should of received an R-rating so more people could of taken Max Payne more seriously and could of more violent scenes. I was skeptical about the movie because it had received a PG-13 rating so I just waited until it was released on DVD. People told me not to watch the movie but I said I wanted to see it for myself; I should have heeded their warning. Max Payne wasn’t even a Bad Ass Hard Boiled cop with nothing to lose like how I thought he was going to be. I watched the movie before I played the game and after I saw it I thought to myself, “Man, where were the action scenes? I counted 2-3 action scenes through out the whole movie?” The director of the Movie should have been John Woo and the writer should have been Kurt Wilmer. The music was a good feel for it but that is not enough. It should have been common scene to make John Woo the director for the movie and not John Moore since the Max Payne game’s gunplay action was inspired by John Woo’s epic action gunplay in his movies, look at the movie Hard Boiled’s gunplay action scenes.
Mark Walberg was the perfect choice for the movie but the story needed some serious work. I never played the game Max Payne before I watched the movie or the trailer. When I saw trailers of the movie on TV see demons fly through windows and hearing things from the movie trailers such as when the African guy was talking to Mona Sax saying, “The devil is building his army, Max Payne is looking for something that God wants hidden that is why he is dangerous.” I then thought to myself “What?! I didn’t know that Max Payne fought demons and stuff like that. When I saw the movie everything that was said and shown in the trailer had no importants to the movie at all. The African guy even told Mona to stay away from Max when Judgment Day comes. What Judgment Day was he talking about?! Nothing epic that happened in that movie could ever earn the title of Judgment Day. When I saw the movie I understood that Lupino represented the devil and Nicole Horne represented God and that saying that Max was looking for something that God wants hidden meant that he was looking for answers about the death of his wife and kid that the Aseir Corporation was covering up, but still Max Payne was not hard at all he was more scared than ruthless. The movie really pissed people off when near the end of the movie everyone who is watching the movie finds out the demons that the junkies were seeing were just a side effect of the Valkeir drug; the movie should have given people a heads up about that near the beginning of the movie.
A lot of scenes of the movie should have been taken out and a lot of good action scenes should have been put in. What was with the part in the beginning of the movie when Max Payne said, “I don’t believe in Heaven, I believe in pain?” What did saying that have to do with the movie and saying I believe in pain just sounded corny knowing that his last name is Payne. Get it “Pain” “Max Payne”; stop laughing I don’t find this funny. Remember the part when B.B shot Lupino and Max looked like he was about to cry saying, “What’s going on B.B?” I felt like saying to Max, “Shut up you little bitch!” There were only 3 action scenes in the whole movie, it’s a Max Payne movie for goodness sake it should have had 8 action scenes and every one of those scenes should have bested the last one. The movie made Max look more stealthy in his action scenes than a ruthless bass ass that takes all of his enemies head on with no mercy, he was more of a nice Max Payne in this movie. The last part of the movie when he killed B.B wasn’t even epic; it just mimicked the way people would die occasionally on the game, you should always have an epic way of ending the last action scene of an action movie. One scene showing the death of his wife pissed me off because when Max saw his dead wife he didn’t even show any emotion.
Here’s a list of seven scenes that should have been deleted from the movie.
    • When Max Payne was at his snitch’s party. (That was pretty useless.)
    • When Mona Sax’s sister was at Max’s apartment then died afterwards. (It was stupid to make her look like she died by demon when there was no demon, there was bad acting in those type of scenes when it looked like people died by demons.)
    • When Max and Mona was at the tattoo parlor. (The could of explained the Valkere mythology better.)
    • The many scenes were Lupino would be shown in a sports jacket looking down at Max.
    • The scene where Mona was talking to the African guy. (That scene had no significance to the movie at all.)
    • When Max and Mona were watching the video about the drug. (It was boring and lame.)
    • The scene after the end credits when Max meets up with Mona and looked at the news with Nicole Horne’s picture on it. (The movie was so bad that even with that set up scene for sequel there will most likely be no sequel to this movie.)
Here’s a list of scenes that needed some improvement.
    • The beginning scene when Max was following the junkies and came in conflict with them. (Did you know that the black junkie with the hood on his head in the beginning of the movie was the same black guy in the beginning of the game in the same setting as the movie?)
    • When Max fought Lupino’s men and along with the scene when Max fought Lupino. (Why did Lupino have a sword? It makes no scene to fight Max Payne with a sword.)
    • When Max fought B.B’s men. (It was the climax of the movie but failed to amaze or impress anyone.)
    • There should have been a lot more bullet time moments. (The average action movie now days that has gunplay action has better bullet time and more bullet time action than Max Payne did.)
    • When Lupino was gutting that junkie with his sword. (This scene should have been more violent, brutal, and sadistic.)
Here’s a list of things that should have happened.
    • Vinnie Gognitti from the game should been in the movie. Vinnie is hilarious and was a character that stuck out in the game and was an important part of the game and to me he was the comic relief of the game. On the game I spent a few chapters chasing that guy. There could have been an action chase scene on the movie having to deal with Vinnie Gognitti. Vinnie was kind of a bitch too. Vinnie could have at least been Max’s snitch and eventually screwed Max over. (How can you have a Max Payne movie without Vinnie Gognitti?)
    • Vladimir Lim should have been on the movie helping Max Payne but really without Max knowing that he is just being used by Vladimir. Max wouldn’t have figured that out until the next movie. (Daniel Craig should have been casted as Vladimir Lim.)
    • Lupino should have been more psychotic, ruthless, and demon worshiping nutcase. (Lupino is supposed to be a Mafia boss not some out of shape Latino with no fire arms.)
    • Criminals are supposed to be scared of Max Payne. (What’s with Max saying in the beginning of the movie, “There’s an army of bodies under this river, criminals willing to accept me as one of their own, it was an easy mistake to make.” There were never any criminals willing to accept him as one of their own in the movie, what mistake was easy to make? The movie just said a bunch of nonsense to make their trailers look and sound cool.)
    • Mona Sax should have looked more mature and had better chemistry with Max. (Mila Kunis was not right for the part. I can’t picture a relationship between her and Mark Walberg if there was to be another movie.)
    • There should have been 7-8 action scenes with bullet time in this movie and John Woo should have directed it. (There were only 3 short action scenes in this movie, that’s Bullshit! And John Moore sucks ass!)
    • There should have been a Captain Baseball bat boy reference. (I wouldn’t have mined that.)
Here’s a list of things I liked about the movie.
    • It was snowing most of the time. (That gave it a little bit of a Max Payne feel.)
    • The music was on point with the mood and feeling of the movie. (That was a good score.)
    • The scene where Max is with the Aseir employee punching and pistol whipping him trying to get answers about his wife and kids death. (That was the only time in the movie where Max actually felt like Max Payne making the other guy look like a bitch.)
    • I liked B.B’s character a lot. (The movie gave him a bigger role than in the game but that was cool. It was funny when he kept telling his guy he was with to calm the Fuck down.)
    • Ludichris as Jim Burvera. (In the game Jim Burvera was an old fat white guy lol.)
    • The scene where Max and the Swat team had a shoot out.
The story was fine until there were a bunch of useless scenes added to the movie.
Here’s what made the movie weak.
    • Lack of depth to the story and the story did not develop.
    • The movie barely showed things from Max’s perspective on the death of his family.
    • The movie wasn’t dark enough.
    • Huge lack of action scenes.
    • Max Payne wasn’t hard enough. (He was a little bitch.)
    • The Criminals were lame and Lupino was lame.
    • Mona Sax had little importance in the movie while Max barely did any shit. (In the movie the only weapons Max had was a pistol and a shotgun. Max should have had more guns and weapons than just that.)
    • John Moore directed it. (I believe this was his first action movie he has ever directed.)
I don’t believe that this movie will get a sequel and I think that the only way they could get another Max Payne release is if they wait ten years later to make a remake. That would give people enough time to forget the first one.
Overall this movie sucked. The rating I give this movie is 2 out of 5 stars.
Tell me what you think about my review.

What he said, i so totally agree. No bullettime, thats like james bond not using gadgets, like a vietnam war movie without war scenes. How the director etc. managed to mess this up is beyond me. Lets just hope that they can make another max payne movie after the third game has been released.

NO BULLETTIME????? Come on!! Epic fail.
