Liam Neeson Wants To Be Part Of The ‘A-Team’

In 1972 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem. If no one else can help, and if you can find him, maybe you can hire, Liam Neeson.
Variety has the story -
Liam Neeson is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox to star in its long-gestating bigscreen adaptation of “The A-Team” as Col. John “Hannibal” Smith. Bradley Cooper is in early talks to play Lt. Templeton “Faceman” Peck in the Joe Carnahan-directed pic based on the 1980s TV series.
Production begins in late August for a June 11, 2010, release.
…
[Producers] Carnahan, Fox and Scott Free have kept the series premise — four war vets wrongly convicted of armed robbery escape from a military prison to become do-gooder mercenaries — but they’ve replaced the campy nature of the series with a tone closer to those of “Mission: Impossible” and “Ocean’s Eleven.”
Ocean’s Eleven is incredibly camp!
Anyway, I think this could work. Liam Neeson is used to playing the wise older man (see ‘Star Wars Episode 1′ and ‘Batman Begins’) and he has proven himself recently to be a credible action hero (see ‘Taken’) so playing the leader of this rag-tag bunch of military misfits should be a walk in the park for him. Now I’m very curious as to whom they’re going to cast as BA. It’s going to be hard to live up to Mr. T’s performance.

i enjoyed the original tv series and hope they can capture the flavour of this this…hence the direction and character driven associations…
the character Face and BA will need to be handled well as these are more pivotal to other aspects of the plot…
also they need to ensure the plot takes the best aspects of the original series and expands on it…
use of more intensive explosions and a strong military protocol for the main characters…location aspects although selective should not overtake the essence of the action or overshadow character interaction…improvement remix of the original music should be considered…
Doesn’t anybody in Hollywood have a new idea? Anyone at all? No? OK. Then stop complaining that bittorrent downloads are the number one cause of lost revenue.
I do think he’s the wrong choice for this. Sure, he is old, and he was in an action movie recently, but there the similarities end.
Ving Rhames for BA
I heard Ice Cube (Friday, XXX:State Of The Union, Three Kings) was interested in playing BA, and I think he would be good for the part with just a little more bulking up.
