Transformers 2 reviews (Revenge Of The Fallen)
The Transformers 2 reviews have fallen to earth. Should we be optimus-tic?

The Transformers are back. 30 more robots than last time. 6 minutes longer. Megan Fox gets top billing on the imdb cast list. And it will probably take more money in America than any other movie this year.

Here’s what the movie critics are saying -

Screen Daily

…at 149 minutes, it drags. …But there’s a certain sense of fun here which is sadly lacking in other summer blockbuster fare. …Bay’s amusing take on suburbia sees all the girls look like they’re on a rest break from a pole-dancing club. …The locations are terrific.

Hollywood Reporter -

“…more of the same… …Its intelligence is at the level of the simple-minded… Characters and comedy are in short supply in a plot that’s basically an Indiana Jones-style search for a buried treasure, in this case a 1,000-year-old matrix. …Fan boys will no doubt love it.”

Variety -

“…little seems new compared to the first installment, except that this version is longer, louder… …The sheer amount of ripping steel, exploding mechanical parts and mutating vehicles of all shapes and sizes is something to behold. Industrial Light & Magic handle these sequences superbly. …also includes a shot of John Turturro in a G-string.”

Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen currently holds an 39% rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 36 reviews, compared to 57% for the first Transformers.

    I gave it 6/10.

    (Spoiler free) review: http://tinyurl.com/nehbqv

The CGI is pretty much the only saving grace of this movie.

f**k that bull s**t this is goin to be the best movie of the summer come on now when a moive lk this is longer yu know its better oh yeah don’t hate tranf.2 all the way

Wow, that’s a pretty stupid comment.

How can you say it’s going to be the best movie unless you’ve seen it? If you have seen it then you would know that longer is not better in this case. Whenever what you are getting more of isn’t good, it makes the movie worse.

By your logic, the Dark Knight would easily be the best movie ever if it were 8 hours long. Stories need structure and they need to be condensed. I think this movie is too long. The only good thing about it really is the CGI. Megan Fox is actually god awful in it. This movie might as well be renamed “The Megan Fox softcore porno with some other mediocre story about some robots or some shit”.

I think you should refer to the second review in this post…

Personally I think that everyone had this idea pre-rendered for this movie. It sucks to think that people are trying to hard to read into it. It is about good robots vs. evil robots plain and simple. Summer blockbusters are supposed to be loud and fun. That is exactly what this movie was. It honestly was doomed from the start because people can’t stand michael bay and what he does with his movies. I can’t hate on him though, he makes millions over millions everytime a movie of his drops. Fanboys will love it, people who lack imagination and a fun bone will not. Im sure that there will be a drama/love story with deep meaning and great character arc that these people will enjoy much more.

I take it mr Simon Campbell is a film student or a film maker. Look Mr Campbell save the serious review stuff for the serious movies. This movie is about fun. Its the lack of creativity in peoples minds that disallow them to wanna accept this movie to be a good movie. But I think we all know it will definitely be very entertaining. Yes fan boys will like it but so will mom and dad and gonna and grandpa because it will be entertaining. OPTIMUS PRIME LIVES thanks to Michael Bay, Not you Simon

I calls them like I sees them.

You could say the same thing about Disaster Movie. If it’s shit, then it’s shit.

And no, I’m not a filmmaker or a film student. However it has nothing to do with creativity as to whether or not I think this is a good or bad movie. I think it’s mediocre because the acting is poor, the characters are weak and it’s unoriginal.

Sometimes a movie isn’t intended to emotionally move you, I get that. However don’t throw in all this faux-emotion into the movie then. If it’s just meant to be about big robot aliens smashing eachother up, then make it that way. If it’s meant to be emotionally engaging, make it that way. If they try to make it emotionally engaging (which they do, and you would know this if you’ve seen it) and fail, then I’m going to call them on it.

You speak as if you haven’t seen it. How can you criticise what I’ve said whenever you haven’t even seen it?

If someone is willing to put a movie out there and put lots of money behind it, then I can critique it however the hell I want. If I were just to say “ITS AWSUM COS DERS BIG ROBOTS AND 2 RLY FUNNY ROBOTS HU FIGHT WIF EACH OTHER AND MEGAN FOX IS HOT 2 – 10/10!!!!” then I would be a complete moron.

I paid the money to see the movie, so I can look at it as seriously or as lightly as I please. You can look at Oldboy and see it as some stupid light hearted fighting movie, or look at Fight Club as a movie about fighting. Personally, I like to look at movies for what they are, and if that just-so-happens to be a pile of money-making shit, then that’s what I’ll say.

I went and watched it last Friday and all i can say is, what a film! I was a fan of the first one anyway but this one is in a league of its own. Quite possibly the best film i have seen this year!! Not to mention Megan Fox is very nice in this one!!

i think transformers 2 tried too hard to be funny in parts that never even had to be put in the movie.
an example of this would be when Sam’s parents take him to school and his mom ate the brownies. its irrelevnt and not needed, also adding nothing to the plot. however some of the comic relief was nice it just needed to be cut down in my oppinion. and edited so unneeded parts werent added. cant wait for transformers 3 though.

This was quite possibly the worst movie ever made. I thought the first Transformers movie was solid, but the new one made me want to transform into molotov cocktail so I could end the fiasco. From the five minute scene where Shia’s mother ate marijuana brownies and went ballistic, to Shia’s girlfriend’s magical 10 minute flight to his dorm room, to the updated transformers that can turn into people, to the Jar Jar Binks transformers that had gremlin heads with gold fonts acting like a white guy acting like a black guy, to the magic pixie dust, to the retarded military, to the transformer testicles, and finally to transformer heaven. Yeah, that’s right, transformer heaven. This movie was American Pie meets transformers. I have never felt so adamant about a bad movie before, but Michael Bay sat around with a group of 18-year-olds, smoked weed and wrote the script. Movies usually are directed toward an audience and this specific audience was for anyone with an IQ under 10. Please avoid at all cost!!!

    ***SPOILER ALERT***

I saw the movie and I liked it a lot but there were only a bunch of little things in this movie I did not like… for example when Bumble Bee was reving up against Sam you can CLEARLY see someone driving the damn car through the windshield when there wasn’t suppose to be anyone in the damn car… and what the hell was up with that scene where Sam is talking to the ancestors?! Everyone has to admit that part was kind of random, even for this kind of movie. Like I said these part really didn’t bother me as much as the fact that with all the new Transformers in the movie no one was introduced? Give more Transformers some dialogue damnit! But like I said, overall I liked the movie but it does have its cheesy moments. And believe me when I say this woredpoint , its not the best movie ever…. the Dark Knight was way better.

Yes, well, what can be said?
I have to agree with those of you who feel this movie was terrible. Beyond terrible, in fact. Now, this is not an attack to be taken personally by people who loved the film and feel they must defend it; this is just my own opinion, which is what reviews are for. Reviewing.
So no plot, of course… and yet, there tries to be. Tries so hard. You’ve got hallucinations of an ancient language, hidden mega weapons, shards of alien artifact and the rise of an ancient evil. So my opinion is that this movie was not a ‘who needs a plot let’s just have 2 hours of mindless violence’ type deal. Michael Bay tried to create a plot. He just screwed it up completely, is all. From the very first idea introduced, that of the Autobots forming an alliance with the US military to hunt down rouge Decepticons – it was just ridiculous. Hey you soldiers, attack that hiding decepticon! SPLAT. Oops, might have seen that coming… Hey, US military – hold on to this alien shard of incalculable worth will you? Don’t worry, if a fleet of 80 foot tall robotic killing machines comes to get it, we’ll be parked in an aircraft hanger in a straight line, getting waxed for months at a time between incursions. It just got worse from there. Even the humour smacked of someone trying desperately to fill the gap created by the total lack of any personality on the part of the Transformers. Film about gigantic robots killing each other – pause for a middle aged woman getting stoned, ha! Okay, back to the robots… oh, quick testicle joke. Oh, that was good, lets do another. Oh, then another! Bay tried hard to set up an ‘Ultimate Evil’ in the Fallen, but didn’t think it through. He can only be killed by a Prime, but Prime can be duffed up by any three random decepticons? Then The Fallen, telepathically alerted, makes his move. He announces to all the Earth that he is taking over – then chills out until the end of the film. Why commandeer every TV set on the planet, when his only goal was to destroy our sun? Well, I guess he has been sitting still for 17,000 years. Must be bored. Starsceam is officially the worst shot in the world, missing with about 10 rockets when shooting at an unsuspecting car going dead straight down the only road around. And thank the Primes those decepticons didn’t have infra red vision, or any form of scanners, or it’d have been a lot tougher to hide from them in a mud hut. Guess they don’t build them like they used to. Oh, except they are all thousands of years old. But not old enough to read ‘Ancient’ Cybertronian, I guess it must be a complex process to teach language skills to walking supercomputers. Personally, I think Michael Bay would have done a lot better to make a 10 minute film. Show the body of Megatron being buried. Prime pockets the All Spark shard, then parks on the grave. Cut to The Fallen saying “DOH!”. And roll credits…

    Dear people,
    Tranformer History and Culture,
Movies are expensive now a days. Its roughly ten dollars to see them at the show. So what do I do, I do research on the film I am wishing to see. Luck for me there is a comic book shop in my area. So I brought the pre-queal to Transfomers Revenge of the Fallen and the movie Addaption. I followed the comic line of the movie. Plus I pick up the Guide to the History and culture of the Transfomers. So when I went to the moive I loved it, I had no problem following the story cause I read about it and research it was. great, although the “Alice” robot attacking Sam. In the comic addaptaion there was a TV that showed a Alice and Wonderland park that was hit and the Alice robot animtronic at park was there. One of the students watching said wow that looks like the girl in my class. It was not in the movie and figure people would go wait what? When she did her tounge thing. People we live in a age of knowledge and infomation, do research on the things you love and want to know about if your going to spend up to 10 to 15 dollars at the show. If you do not wish too thats your choice, but do not go HUH? and think its stupid, if you did not understand in the first place. Read, and know whats your getting yourself into. Knowledge is power.

FIRST OF, I WANT TO SAY SHUT THE HELL UP, SIMON!!!

NOW, TO THE ISSUE AT HAND, TRANSFORMERS 2 ROCKS!!! I JUST CAME FROM SEEING IT AND IT WAS WORTH EVERY PENNY ADN I WOULD (AND WILL) SEE IT AGAIN!! MICHAEL BAY DID IT AGAIN AND FOR TRUE TRANSFORMER FANS, YOU WILL LOVE IT AND I STRONGLY SUGGEST YOU GO SEE IT! BUBBLE BEE IS THE TRUTH AND THE ACTING WAS EXCELLENT FOR THE CONTENT OF THE MOVIE. WHOEVER LEFT THE COMMENT THAT THE MIVE IS FOR ACTION, LOUDNESS AND FUN IS RIGHT!! OUT OF 10 STARS I GIVE IT 19 STARS!!! I AM EVEN LOOKING FORWARD TO A 3RD INSTALLMENT!! WHOEVER THINKS THIS MOVE WAS MEDIOCRE, HEY THAT’S YOUR OPINION, BUT THE PUNCH LINES, JOKES, ACTION, NEW AND OLD ROBOTS, SAM, TYRESE AND THE OTHER (GUY) STAR WERE GREAT AND IT MAD ME CRY A COUPLE OF TIME, LAUGH A LOT AND MY MOUTH WAS OPEN A COUPLE OF TIMES. I WILL END IT WITH THIS. THE MOVIE GOT A STANDING OVATION WEHN IT WAS FINALLY OVER!!!! GREAT JOB MICHAEL BAY AND STEVEN SPEILBERG!!!

  • Simon Campbell said:

To be honest NJ Chele, your comment says a lot more than you probably think.

Go on, if you find fart jokes, testicle jokes and dogs having sex jokes funny then that’s your deal. I’m sure you’d also love Disaster Movie.

I see you’re a really big fan. I like “Bubble Bee” as much as the next guy. And yeah, Steven Speilberg is great…

I’m sure you also found the racially insensitive Twins hilarious too.

And you’re right, it is just about action, loudness and fun. I mean, all the stuff about Sam and Mikaela trying to say “I love you” to eachother is not trying to evoke emotion at all. The back-story as well does not try to get you emotionally involved into the characters.

I went to see Spiderman 3, and it got a standing ovation.

    Nuff said.
