Guy Pearce In ‘Don’t Be Afraid Of The Dark’ Remake

Dont Be Afraid Of The Dark remake - Details
If you happened to watch an ABC telefilm in 1973 called ‘Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark’ (or caught it on video) then you’re in luck. Because it’s coming back.

This new intepretation tells the story of a young girl who moves in with her father and his girlfriend only to discover they are sharing the house with demonic creatures.

The Hollywood Reporter has the story –

Guy Pearce is in final negotiations and Bailee Madison is set to star with Katie Holmes in “Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark,” Miramax’s supernatural thriller being directed by Guillermo del Toro protege Troy Nixey. Del Toro is producing with Mark Johnson.

Madison will play the girl, who discovers the creatures and is fascinated by them — until they prove dangerous. Pearce will play the father, an author frustrated by his daughter’s tales of monsters, not believing her even when his girlfriend (Holmes) backs her.

Del Toro and Matthew Robbins wrote the script. The movie is set to begin production next month in Melbourne, Australia.

Busiest man in Hollywood Guillermo del Toro strikes again. Give me anything that man has a hand in and I will watch it, mix in the criminally under-used Guy Pearce and now I’m excited, add to that creepy little monsters and crappy made-for-tv movies and I’m in heaven. Since I am way too young and live on the wrong side of the Atlantic I have never seen the original movie so I can’t comment on the quality, but if I had to guess I would say that this is one property that could benefit from a reboot.

Here’s the trailer to the original, with a bit of added Dutch to help our European readers:

If it’s a movie with mythical small creatures in it, Hollywood is contractually obliged to get Guillermo del Toro involved. Even though Hellboy 2 was a big bag of balls.

lol, love the trailer, especially the classic scream at ~44 seconds.
How come the girl looks about 40 though? The father in it does have a Guy Pearce look about him.

P.S. Sheridan, I think the reference you are looking for RE Hellboy was that it was actually the bol**cks đŸ˜‰

The Woman (Sally) In The Original Is Not A Young Girl. Sally And Her Husband Inherit The House. In The New Remake It’s The Couple’s Young Daughter That Sees The Creatures.
