Vaughn & Favreau’s Couples Retreat – Trailer

Couples Retreat Trailer.jpg
It’s a new romantic ensemble comedy based on an idea by Vince Vaughn and written by Jon Favreau. Sounds great, huh?

‘Couples Retreat’ follows four Midwestern couples (Vince Vaughn & Malin Akerman, Jason Bateman & Kristen Bell, Jon Favreau & Kristin Davis, Faizon Love & Some Unknown) who embark on a journey to a tropical island resort. While one couple is there to work on their marriage, the other three set out to jet ski, spa and enjoy some fun in the sun. But they soon discover that participation in the resort’s couples therapy is not optional. What follows is an “hilarious” look at real world problems faced by all couples. The film also features the sneaky Frenchman of cinema, Jean Reno.

The film looks like it has the potential to be a hilarious rom-com with a few criminally under-used comedy actors such as Peter Serafinowicz and Jason Bateman, but on the other hand these kind of movies usually put all the funniest gags in the trailer, and this trailer isn’t very funny. Having said that, it’s possible that the jokes are just so damn raunchy that they can’t be included in a trailer.

Vince Vaughn seems to just be playing Vince Vaughn as usual, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing and the female leads appear to be nothing more than foils to the guys’ wacky antics. This could be a pleasant surprise but I’m not holding out much hope on the basis of this trailer.

Why would Jon Favreau write himself a part where he’s constantly bare chested?

When I heard about this film I thought it sounded quite funny but the trailer isn’t very inspiring. Wasn’t the yoga joke done already in “Forgetting Sarah Marshall”?

Yeah, and by the looks of things Kristen Bell must think she’s still making the same movie.

I always have hope where Favreau and Vaughn are concerned. Still, it’s a long time since Made…
