Shane Meadows To Direct Horror Movie

His work is rather less well known in the States (hopefully some will have seen Dead Mans Shoes or This is England), but Shane Meadows is one of the shining lights of British cinema. He’s also one of the few successful UK directors who haven’t left their country behind for Hollywood.
Anyone who does know his films will be pretty surprised to find out he’s working up a horror for his next ‘big’ project. It’s called Beware The Devil, and this is how he describes it -
“It’s based on a book of the same name, based on the life of a guy who, by getting involved with ouija boards and the occult by trying to disprove it, trying to take the piss out of it, got possessed, had to be exorcised, and later became an exorcist himself. The guy it happened to has died, but his son’s a novelist, and he helped him turn it into a book before he passed away, and now I’m working with him to turn it into a film.”
Although it’s based on a non-fiction book, don’t expect anything too soft. Meadows has warned that it “makes Dead Man’s Shoes look like Play School“, and as Dead Man’s Shoes was a bloody, brutal and unsettling affair goodness know what he has in store here. Meadows excels at grounding his films in British working class realism, so this could turn out to be something truly unique in the horror genre.

Anything from Shane Meadows is going to be worth watching. I wonder if the film will focus on the guy being possessed or becoming an exorcist himself?
