Asteroids: The Movie
4.07.09 # News # No CommentIn what is quite possibly the weirdest move ever, Universal is said to be developing a motion picture based on the late 70s video game Asteroids.

The game consists of two elements: a ship, and asteroids. The ship fires at the asteroids. That’s it. It’s one step up from Pong and Snake. Presumably the movie won’t just be the asteroid scene from The Empire Strikes Back minus the chase and the big worm thing because, and it goes without saying, that would be boring and probably not have enough Harrison Ford in it.
If you’re feeling nostalgic, or if you’ve never heard of the game before, you can check it out here:
It’s strange that Universal would opt to purchase a license for something that cannot possible have any discernible link to the film they’re eventually going to release…Unless it’s not a straightforward sci-fi movie and it is actually about the game itself, or uses the game as a storytelling device somehow. That’s a stretch but a possibility. More Slumdog than Pirates…What are your thoughts? Will it be a generic sci-fi movie called Asteroids or is their more to it? What Asteroids movie would YOU make?
