New Bond Theme Leaked In Coke Advert
17.09.08 # 17:57 # News # No CommentThe theme tune for the new James Bond film ‘Quantum Of Solace’ has been revealed months before the film’s release, not as part of a trailer of the film but in an advert for a Coke Zero tie in called Zero Zero Seven (get it?).
Check out the advertisement in question below:
The writer of the theme Jack White (of the band The White Stripes) is said to be furious that his song has been revealed early and in an abridged form (there are no vocals in the advertisment). White’s management issued a statement on the matter:
“Jack White was commissioned by Sony Pictures to write a theme song for the James Bond film Quantum Of Solace, not for Coca Cola,” his management said.
“Any other use of the song is based on decisions made by others… We are disappointed that you first heard the song in a co-promotion for Coke Zero, rather than in its entirety.”
It seems White does not want to be seen as a corporate shill by being associated with the Coca-Cola brand (there’s much more indie credibility in writing the theme for a Bond film).
Is it just me or is White’s reaction to this situation just a tad pretentious? He presumably knew that he wouldn’t have control of the song once written, after all it was commissioned by a giant corporation (Sony), and was presumably paid a substantial paycheck. If he didn’t want it messed with he should never have made the deal.
