Tobey Agrees To SPIDERMAN 4 & 5 . . . On HIS Schedule

Tobey Maguire will star in Spiderman 4 and Spiderman 5, which will shoot back-to-back in an effort to reign in the massive costs of making these things. He’ll receive a record $50 million dollars in salary and profit shares for both films. In addition he has negotiated “family time” as part of his contract, which will allow him “early mornings” and “evenings off” to spend time with his 22-month-old daughter Ruby.

In the next few days Sony is expected to reveal whether Maguireā€™s ex-girlfriend Kirsten Dunst will be returning as his on-screen love interest, Mary Jane Watson. There has so far been no mention if director Sam Raimi would also be returning.

I’ve said before I’m not a big comic book guy, they never really were on my radar growing up. My attention at the newsstand was always distracted to the inaccessible back row touting the current issues of SET SAIL and YAUGHTING MONTHLY. But I digress . . .

Anyhoo, in regards to the SPIDERMAN series, I thought the first one was “meh”, totally dug SPIDERMAN 2 and scratched my head at the continuous bad choices of SPIDERMAN 3. I also thought Maguire was pretty good in the role but could easily imagine pretty much any baby-faced actor (currently being mocked by some critics as “boy-men). So should he be making this kind of bank to come back for the sequels? Quite honestly, in regards to this series, I don’t think the paying audience gives two sh*ts who’s donning the red-and-black tights so long as it’s amidst a fun, entertaining movie. It’s not like we’re talking “John McClane” here who is pretty much Bruce Willis’ alter ego (another example seems to be Robert Englund as Freddy, based on the reaction to him being replaced – see here).

Time and again Hollywood seems clueless as to what components are the necessities for a successful sequel. And most of the time it involves the cast. Another prime example is with the PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN films. A medium-sized country SHOULD go to Johnny Depp to reprise “Jack Sparrow”. But they also paid a hefty fortune for the return of Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley.

Getting back to Maguire’s deal, there has been a lot of criticism about him choosing his hours to film. And God knows what kind of shooting schedule they’re gonna end up with based pretty much on 9-to-5 working hours. But if Hollywood is willing to give it to him, why not take it? Wouldn’t you?

How does this bode for Spiderman 4 and 5? Leave your thoughts in the comments.

SPiderman 1 was “meh” only because it was an intro movie. It explained the origins of spiderman and how he became who he is and whatnot. Spiderman 2 was great and I really enjoyed it. Spiderman 3 was not so good and Sony should be very careful about how they want the direction of the franchise to go otherwise they will kill it, sorta like Batman (TIm Burton’s, that is).
With SPiderman 3, you have 2 mega villains on at the same time. MISTAKE. Each villain should have had seperate movie time meaning Spiderman 3 should have had either Venom exclusively or Sand man exclusively, but not both. As such, I felt the movie did not do justice to either and it felt rushed. I don’t know who will be in the upcoming movies. To be honest, Venom should have been a solely dedicated villain movie and not share screen time with anyone else. But oh well. Rhino, Kraven, Morbius, flaming skull, which will it be?????

Venom is getting his own movie, which makes sense given how badly he was handled in Spidey 3.

Personally, I want Bruce Campbell as Mysterio for the whole movie.

Last I heard he was. But there hasn’t been any news on it for the past few months. I’d say it’s not a definite.

With the continuing story line I think they should keep Dunst as Mary Jane and also it shouldn’t be too hard to chose the villains of the movie. Personally being a huge Spiderman fan I think that Dr. Connors should be in the next one as the Lizard but also I think there should be atleast another villain and as the story goes a possible could be a coulpe villains one big possibility is Rhino but also Shocker is another that can possibly come up soon also the kingpin would be a good one too. But the well-known villains like Carnage, Mysterio, and Electro should be held back if the studio ever does want to have a long franchise in spiderman because I personally Was mad when they said McGuire was released and I firmly believe that this movie line has what it takes to go the distance because I never really watched the cartoon but I do love the game and I do hope you’ll keep making the movies in the future.
