Writer Hired For Spider-Man 5 & 6

The pressure seems to be on Sam Raimi and Sony/Columbia Pictures right now. With production on Spider-Man 4 set to begin next year, the studio is already shopping around for a screenwriter to pen the next two parts of its second trilogy.

That man is James Vanderdilt (Darkness Falls, Basic, The Loser, Zodiac). He wrote the first draft of Spider-Man 4, before having rewrites added by David Lindsay-Abaire (Robots, Inkheart) and the final script polished by Gary Ross (Big, Seabiscuit). It seems that, while Sam Raimi might have initially rejected one of his major ideas (a two-part film), the studio loved it.

The wait between each successive Spidey film has grown longer by a year after each one, so the studio is, naturally, interested in making sure that this trilogy is completed while there’s still some money left in those webs. Series director Raimi, Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst are only attached to one more film… will we be seeing Gwen Stacey take centre stage soon?

So, with a possible two-part 5 and 6, the guessing game is on: who will be Spider-Man’s villians? I want Mysterio!

Almost all the remaining villains are particularly ridiculous, they blew two good ones on Spider-Man 3. For Spider-Man 4 I expect they’ll use the Lizard and that crappy Vampire one Raimi keeps hinting he likes.

After that it’s anyone’s guess. I’ve always liked the Hobgoblin and I guess Mysterio is a good pick out of what’s left.

I’m tired of the whole Osbourne/goblin legacy.

I want to see Peter Parker mutate more.
Rhino is a must see IMO. The vulture could be cool/creepy and carnage is surely the ultimate psycho?

Venom was definitely wasted in 3

rhyno would be a good side villain but i think for the 5-6 two parter it has to be carnage! he’s the ultimate villain, no in depth emotional backstory just plain, old-fashioned crazy and he’s the most powerful villain spiderman has really – he’s like a copy of spiderman but more badass in every way!

shame they wasted venom on the 3rd film which was balls, i love the relationship venom and spider-man have in the comics with venom’s whole twisted logic and would’ve loved to see a whole movie with just venom so they could build a proper story and do it justice rather than just shove venom in in the last 20 mins!

Personally, I think movies that try to make a 4,5, etc. movie are trying desperately to squeeze more money out the franchise. End it a three. After that, they just start to become boring. Granted, Spiderman has a lot of ideas for continuing sequels. The only exception I can think of is Star Wars. And even then they kinda ruined it with the animated Clone Wars movie.
