Stephen Chow For The Green Hornet

Hong Kong actor-director Stephen Chow is making Green Hornet his first Hollywood movie.

The ‘Kung-Fu Hustle’ and ‘Shaolin Soccer’ helmer will take directing duties and co-star as Hornet’s side-kick Kato. Seth Rogen plays the titular character.

Chow is quoted as saying “I’ve been a huge fan of the show since I was a kid. The idea of stepping into Bruce Lee’s shoes as Kato is both humbling and thrilling, and to get the chance to direct the project as my American movie debut is simply a dream come true.” Bruce Lee played Kato in the TV show.

Green Hornet was originally created in the 1930s for radio, became a comic book in the 40s, and was later seen on television in the 60s.

These new hirings suggest the latest incarnation of the Green Hornet will be a manic, kinetic comedy. The film is set for a June 25, 2010 release.
