Saw 7 - Sequel Plans

saw 7 sequel rumors / story
Saw 7 is already in the works. Here’s what we know so far.

Saw 6 has had the first disappointing opening in the Saw franchise -
2004 - Saw - $18.2m U.S. opening weekend - $103m total internationally (not including dvd)
2005 - Saw 2 - $31m opening - $147m
2006 - Saw 3 - $33m opening - $164m
2007 - Saw 4 - $31m opening - $139m
2008 - Saw 5 - $30m opening - $113m
2009 - Saw 6 - $15m estimated opening

Then again Saw 6 had much of its audience stolen by the Paranormal Activity phenomena, and that won’t be around next year. Also, bizarrely, Saw 6 opened to the best reviews since the first movie, bucking the sharp decline - Saw (46% on rotten tomatoes), Saw 2 (36%), Saw 3 (26%), Saw 4 (18%), Saw 5 (14%), Saw 6 (44%).

The production budget of these films is around $10m, so after international takings and DVD, Saw 6 will still make a large profit. Nonetheless, the sharp drop in public interest since last year is a worrying development for fans.

Saw 7’s release date remains set for Halloween 2010. It’ll be directed by the man behind Saw 5, David Hackl, and shot in 3-D. “A lot of people just do the 2-D to 3-D transfer, but we want to be able to build the sets in a way that takes advantage of depth,” says Hackl. “We’re going to design traps to come at you. The pendulum trap that opened the last Saw movie would have been great in 3-D. …We’re planning a lot of the movie to be through the victim’s eyes, seeing stuff as it’s coming towards them, in their point-of-view.”

How many Saw films will there eventually be? “The storyline that we started in Saw 5 and carry through Saw 6, ends at Saw 8,” say the current writing duo. “Where it goes beyond that, I couldn’t tell you. In my mind, the story is threaded through Saw 8. After that, I can’t tell you that the franchise will continue.” Unless box office results bounce back next year, don’t be surprised if they really do end it at Saw 8.

Finally here’s a note for all of you who comment under this post. Saw 7 director Hackl said last week “Every time I go on the internet someone gives me a new idea for a trap. Every time people go on a blog and post an idea, we consider it. It helps inform how we write the script. We always look at what our audience is hoping for.” - In other words, they’re reading.

So what do you want to see happen in Saw 7? Which characters need to return? Do you have a great idea for a trap? Leave your comments below.

Somehow keep bringing back Amanda in flashbacks. Keep Jill till the end. We need to know who is supplying the medical equipment and assisting in the traps which needed medical knowledge. Also Kill Hoffman

I always hate asking people “did you see saw?” cause it reminds me of a plaground (seesaw), which is about as far as you can come to saw. Then i realized, why not? I think saw could create some pretty twisted games on a playground…the carousel could be only the beginning

i agree, danny glover and cary elwes need to be accounted for… i cant see danny glover making an appearance but Dr Gordon for sure after seeing Saw 6!

Hoffman rescued the girl in part 5 and agent strohm shot and killed the dad.

Ive just been to see saw 6, thought it was good… i do think Dr Gordon will be introduced in the next installment Saw 7, who did Jill post that brown envolope to? it was left to her by Jigsaw in the box along with the 6 other documents used for the traps and Hoffman…

It looked like a surgeons office she posted it to!!??

    Any takers?…..

It’s funny because I thought it would have been cool if they did something that endured some hair pulling that resulted in a scalping process.. Then they did it! I was very pleased.

Maybe something that has to do with teeth. Llke breaking of teeth or something. Like breaking each tooth one by one..

Danny Glover’s character is shown in the memorial scene in Saw V, so he died. They don’t explain the details of his death in the movies, but he is the protagonist of a video game where he is put through a series of tests like in Saw III, IV, and V. In the game, even if he survives all of the tests he commits suicide at the end over grief of failing to catch Jigsaw.

I am curious about the outcome of Dr. Gordon, I think he may be an interesting plot-line in VII and VIII. But now he is not the only survivor anymore, the two from Hoffman’s series of tests in V and Daniel Mathews. I am also curious about what happens with the saved people from the series of tests in VI. Previously, even those saved during tests ended up dying somehow.

I am more interested in the dynamic between Jill and Hoffman though, since they both have claim to continue Jigsaw’s work.

Well everyone the main questions i can still think that need to be answered is 1. Why are the jigsaw pieces cut from each victim 2. What was in the envelope and who did jill give it to 3. What happened to Dr. Gordon and 4. What is Hoffman going to do next. I originally thought there was only going to be seven SAW movies. Guess we will see what the next two bring!

Saw 6 was freaking awesome.. The story came to full circle and started a new one as well. Finally.. I found out wat was in the envelope that was given to Amanda.. it all made sense in the end.

Question.. Wat ever happened to Rigg anyways?? Did he die in part 4 or is he still alive. The little girl was rescued already.. Dr. Gordon is still alive, we know that

I agree. Hoffman needs to die already..

Everyone will be tested according to Jigsaw, so will Jill Tuck be tested eventually then

    I agree with binarian!

Something to do with a seesaw would be great, at an amusement park or something like that, to bring the traps outside 4 walls.

I also think working with some old characters would be useful, not making it to confusing for viewers.

    :)

all i have to say is…..DR.GORDON

  • K said:

Dr. Gordon yes, has to come back into play.

Only other comment is that they should change it up and actually have a character live at the end that isn’t evil. I mean all the characters know that if they play the game they will survive but then they either don’t play or they do and someone else kills them.
We all expect most everyone to die. Why not change it up and let someone live. I mean look how far they took Amanda’s part b/c she had her test and won. I just think it would be a nice little change.

i think dr. gordon is helping out jiggsaw and the rest, why? Because remember he is a doctor and can assist hoffman and jigsaw with the plantation of keys behind an eye,,or saving donny walhberg leg and other stuff,,,,,hoffman is a policeman and jiggsaw wasnt a doctor…..dr. gordon is helping out!

This is to david hackl, the director of saw 5 and the future “saw 7″ if he ever gets it. I’m actually scripting a movie about a rich woman who makes movies who doesn’t “appreciate life” in the sense of having too much money and fame, so philosophically I’m very much in touch with your and your filmmakers’ concept of the “jigsaw” character, tell tobin bell he’s a legend and I’d love to have him as a supporting actor in my film if it gets made one day. Anyway, my suggestion is bring back Dr. Gordon seeing as he’s referred to in some way in every sequel but not actually shown on screen since the first “saw” film. And second of all, stop portraying cops as bad guys. I trashed the “saw” sequels for the very reason that “Saw 5″ shows that hoffman is shown to have been involved in every saw film even though he only appears on screen from 3-6. I know a cop socially here in Melbourne Australia and I hate the way you guys portray cops like “rigg” and “hoffman” as apprentice psychopaths, Hoffman more so. And also pass on if you would, my email to tobin bell and shawnee smith, I’d love to get them in my “appreciation of life” script about the rich and famous.

Oh this is another comment for david hackl, saw 5 director if he ever reads it. Stop showing all or the majority of the violence on screen. Start implying most if not all of it like in “Saw” the original. I can individually think of a way to imply the deaths of all the victims in saw 2-5. I can do that, so can you. Suggestion: stop grossing people out and focusing on how much money you and producers mark burg and oren khoules can make, and focus on imaginative story telling like the original “saw”.
