Lethal Weapon 5 – Not Happening

lethal-weapon-5-mel-gibsonThe future of Lethal Weapon 5 is as bleak as the economy.

There have been rumours recently of a new installment being put together by series producer Joel Silver, with screenwriter extraordinaire Shane Black writing and directing. Last week, actor Columbus Short said he had been cast as Danny Glover’s son in the film.

But now director of I-IV Richard Donner has gone on record to say the project is “dead in the water”, because Mel Gibson has turned it down.

Gibson’s reasons are unknown, and he was not available for comment, last being seen heading for his car with a bottle in his hand. (not true)

Donner says “I would like to think that Mel turned it down because I wasn’t involved. Knowing Mel, I would like to think that. Would that be the kind of thing he does? It sure would be.”

Anyone who’s seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang knows Shane Black is a better director these days than the tired Donner. If Lethal Weapon 5 had to happen, he would have been a great choice. But with no Gibson, don’t expect this buddy cop saga to continue.

I can understand not making a 5th film, he’s getting old and it shows, it would be hard to play an athletic cop character and look like he does. It wouldn’t feel right. Sometimes series have to end.

Mel has’nt really been around for a while as an actor, he’s what is referred to has a has been actor, also he should consider doing the sequel since he’s not much for anything else, but plain and simple Mel if you are reading this don’t be a wimp, do the freaking sequel.

I agree that a fifth film is pushing this series too far, but Greg is a fu!@ing idiot when he said there should have never been a fourth. The fourth was a neccessary film because it put the series to rest in a nice way. Riggs got married and had a kid and murtaugh became a grandfather. OH and they got that big promotion they always wanted. How great was that. LOL

You do realize that if this was real life, Murtaugh would be 72. Something to chew on.

hahahahahaha a seventy something and a fifty something running around chasing down bad guys. woo hoo, thats my idea of a classic in the making. maybe we could get ernest borgnine elizabeth taylor to join in with kirk douglas and shirley temple as the hot sexual couple. great move by mel gibson to drop out. if only he backed out of lethal weapon 4. definately have to agree with greg there……
