The Watchmen – New Footage From The Scream Awards
22.10.08 # News # 2 CommentsI know it’s not cool to say it, but I’d never even heard of The Watchmen before they announced a movie was being made. The first trailer was like a cattle prod on the proverbial buttocks and now I’m anticipating it as much as anyone else. There have been various behind-the-scenes videos floating around recently, but at The Scream Awards this week they actually showed new footage, which you can watch below. It continues to look extremely impressive.
The Scream Awards, by the way, is the awards show that’s dedicated to horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genre movies. It’s been around since 2006. I mostly know it for Thomas Jane presenting a link on there while roaring drunk, which you can see here.
Anybody still got doubts about the movie? Or about Thomas Jane’s ability to party?

I’ve heard a LOT of great things about the source material from credible people, but I’ve gotta say, it just looks like a film based on CGI action sequences, and I hate CGI action sequences. If action sequences don’t feel like there’s some kind of threat or danger, then what’s the point? Hence why the car chase in The French Connection is a thousand times better than the blue screen nonsense of a “car chase” (it’s not a car chase – it’s a computer game sequence, there are no cars and they’re not chasing anything) in The Matrix Reloaded.
So I have my doubts.
Parts of Sin City had real emotion, I think it’s possible for good material to transcend the medium.
