Bill Murray Casts Doubt On Ghostbusters 3

While promoting Fantastic Mr Fox in London Bill Murray has shed further light on the mysterious Ghostbusters 3 project. In a typically honest interview with British radio station Absolute, Murray also discusses his role as a badger in Mr Fox and the difficulties that come with making sequels.

It’s over 20 years since Ghostbusters 2 but hopes are that all the original cast will reunite for a third installment including the retired Rick Moranis, lets face it though, if they don’t manage to convince Murray to do the film then they might as well just forget it. His brilliant dead pan delivery is what made the original so great.

Murray has had an interesting career since the Ghostbuster films, combining mainstream Hollywood roles with more interesting parts in arthouse and independent films. Along with his numerous roles in Wes Anderson films, Murray is also a regular in the films of American-indie great Jim Jarmusch and earlier this year appeared in his film The Limits of Control. The minimalist style of Jarmusch and also of the Jarmusch influenced Sofia Coppola (Lost in Translation) seems to be perfectly suited to Murray’ laid back style of acting. Arguably though, Murray’s best performance to date is in the comedy classic Groundhog Day, in which he plays a world weary TV meteorologist who gets stuck in a time loop.

Are you looking forward to Ghostbusters 3? Will it even go ahead? and do you agree with my choice of Murray’s best performance?

Groundhog Day is his best performance, and the first Ghostbusters is right up there. I feel sorry for the guys writing the script for this. They do all that work, draft it multiple times, then Bill Murray says no and the whole project gets shitcanned.

Definitely agree with Groundhog Day. Phenomenal movie, and great performance from Murray. I’d say for me it’s a tie between that, and his role in Rushmore.

I am so looking forward to Ghostbusters 2! It has been so long since the first one that I almost forgot about the thought of making another movie. Sometimes you cant touch perfection though! Ever wonder why they never made a Casablanca 2? I rest my case.

I HAVE A GOOD SCRIPT FOR BILL!!
Original Ghostbusters passing on the torch to a brand new generation of Ghostbusters.
Movie involves the Original Ghostbusters going up against an evil that could end the world. In this movie the threat is so great the Original Ghostbusters have to call for backup (The New Ghostbusters) maybe if they can get Shia Leoff into it,Lee Thompson Young and some other great young actors. Maybe Bill will sign on to this film.

The premise for “G.B. 3″ is simple. Follow up on the plot line from part 2.Remember when Veinkman (Murray’s character) had the World of Psychics show? Follow the plot of the second guest (the women who met an alien or whtever) and make a movie about tht. It will be years down the road (much like her prediction in the 2nd movie) and you can introduce a new cast AND keep the all important original cast. Problem solved.
