Duchovny Wants A Third X-Files Movie

David Duchovny Wants A Third X-Files Movie
The X-Files was, at one time, the biggest show on television, spanning nine seasons (about six of which were good) and spawning two movie spin-offs, as well as a million insane conspiracy theories. Today, David Duchovny (Fox Mulder on the show) has come out in favor of a third X-Files movie, despite the second installment only receiving a luke-warm reception.

From MTV -

the “Californication” star spoke about his hopes for a third “X-Files” film. Duchovny believes that “X-Files 3″ could be perfectly appropriate for a 2012 release, thanks to the year’s supposedly catastrophic nature according to Nostradamus and Roland Emmerich’s (via the Mayan civilization) prophecies.

“As far as the X-Files movie I’d like to do next, if we get a chance to do it, would be a return to the heart and soul of the mythology, which is the alien-oriented conspiracy,” Duchovny said. “I think it’s natural for ‘The X-Files’ to have another movie in 2012, so we’ll see if we get to do it.”

Personally I liked The X-Files: I Want to Believe quite a bit, I think a lot of people were disappointed because it played out more like an extended ‘monster-of-the-week’ episode rather than focusing on the over-arching alien conspiracy story. It’s fun to see these classic characters playing off each other again, so I’d be up for a third movie. How about you guys? Do you think a third movie is needed, or even wanted? If so, would you prefer an extension of the alien conspiracy story, or something that stands on its own?

I, like a lot of people, never got round to watching the second X-Files movie. Was initially keen, but the critical reaction put me off. It is on the rental list though. The third movie should return to the main alien storyline and close things up in dramatic fashion.

People should know when to stop.
In the case of the X-files now is a good time.

The Terminator movies seem to be able to go further. But Arnold stepped out just in time not to look completely ridiculous in a fourth.

Duchovny should bow down and let the X-files end gracefully. I’m sure he can find work elsewhere.

I enjoyed the 2nd stab, i think it should’ve been a proper monster of the week installment though as the story was a bit week but i think that a 3rd movie is just the opportunity they need to show why it was so popular in the first place.

I have been a huge fan of the X-Files since the beginning. Yes, the series faltered for a bit but I feel it recovered and the last 2 seasons were spectacular. The addition of Robert Patrick as Agent John Doggett was inspired casting. As for the movies…The first was very good. It kept with the tradition built on the series and answered questions while raising new ones. The second, while good, was hardly worthy of cinematic release. I contained none of the things I had come to expect from Chris Carter. I was really hoping to see Mulder & Scully thrown into the middle mystery concerning the governments hiding of the truth. It would have been nice to see Robert Patrick revise his role as Agent Doggett as well. I hope to see another movie, but I fear that JJ Abrams has stolen Chris Carter’s thunder with Fringe(as excellent show), and this may spell the end of the X-Files.

    X-Files 3? Hmmm…why not?
But still, don’t you gyus think that now is the time for “The X-Files: The next generation”, or something like that?
I LOVE X-Files the show, and i don’t want to be replaced with some non talented actors or some lazy stories, but with a good actors and a good stories…i think that they should re-opened The X Files department.
By the way, if someone didn’t watch the episodes of the show, and watch “I Want To Beleive”, they will ask: “What was all the fuzz about the show? If this is it…” – don’t you think so?

The X-files was a classic and the second movie was good, but it played out like just another episode. I think the first movie was an event and that type of production would bring back the popularity the show enjoyed on TV for a long time.

I am in favor of any new X-files production.

You know what? Thank you. I really liked this movie, although a lot of my other xphile friends did not. I liked the monster of the week feel. People always focus on the conspiracy, but the truth is that the majority of the show was monster of the week episodes. In that sense, this movie was very true to the show and the characters. And I think the idea of having the first movie be totally conspiracy-centric, the second movie be a monster of the week movie and then a third movie also be about the conspiracy . . . well, I think that would be cool and I hope it happens.

I agree wholehartedly with this, but make sure it has the original casting, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as a MINIMUM!
