Ringnuts have been waiting the best part of a decade to return to Middle-Earth. You can question the order in which Jackson and co. decided to do things. The Hobbit is a decidedly smaller-scale and more intimate tale, charting Bilbo Baggins’ adventure with a company of dwarves to reclaim a treasure hoard, which a dragon called Smaug has decided to use as his bedding. Will it just feel like a cash-in on the success of its predecessors/successors, or will it stand up as a memorable tale in its own right?

The Hobbit consists of quite a few known quantities, sure things. Ian McKellan as Gandalf, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Weta Workshop props, costumes and sets. Not everything is certain, though. Peter Jackson screened about ten minutes of The Hobbit at Cinema-Con last night and the audience reactions were divided. Orlando Bloom To Return As Legolas?
10.12.10 # 1:16 # News # 14 Comments
Here’s some news that is sure to rile Tokien purists – Orlando Bloom is reportedly set to reprise his role as Legolas in the upcoming film adaptation of The Hobbit even though the character doesn’t appear in the book. A deal hasn’t been cleared yet, but it seems that it is highly likely to happen and indications are that his part will be more than a mere cameo. Not to be too cynical but could this be a way of luring the young female audiences to see a film they might not have been interested in otherwise? Martin Freeman is a good actor but he’s no teen idol. Either that or it shows they are desperately trying to flesh out a story which is unworthy of being made as two films.
