1  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Final Harry Potter film to be released in 2011 on: February 26, 2009, 08:07:43 AM

Like Lord of the Rings, it had to come to an end one day; the final Harry Potter instalment is now set to be released in the summer of 2011, according to BBC online.

The geeky looking boy wizard will be waving his wand and donning the broomstick for the last time in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, due to be released on July 15th.

JK Rowling’s seventh book in the Harry Potter series was split into two movies by Warner Brothers after deciding it was too difficult to fit all 608 pages in one film.

Harry Porter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 will be released on the 19th November 2010.

And don’t forget about Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince; the movie date was pushed back by eight months to “guarantee the studio a major summer blockbuster”, according to Warner Bros president Alan Horn.  It will be released in July this year.

3  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / The Brits continue to conquer the Oscars - Slumdog and Winslet reign supreme! on: February 23, 2009, 07:17:49 AM

Once again, the British have dominated the Oscars with Slumdog Millionaire walking away with eight Academy Awards including Best Director for Danny Boyle – his first Oscar, and the award of the evening, Best Film, and after years of being nominated, Kate Winslet was finally given an Oscar for her starring role in The Reader.

4  Movie Moron Forum / Top 10 Lists / Top 10 Most Embarrassing Oscar Speeches on: February 21, 2009, 10:08:13 AM
The awards season is soon to come to a climax with the arrival of the Academy Awards.  It is the ultimate ceremony to make a spectacle of oneself by crying rivers of pride and blurt out ill thought through things, or, in some cases, do ‘what the hell??' things whilst holding the Oscar in your trembling hands like the following people in our list:

10. Jack Palance – Best Supporting Actor, City Slickers

Jack Palance was so happy to win an Oscar that he ran out of gratuitous words, and decided to fill in the time he had left on the stage…by doing one armed push ups.

Why?Huh

Click here to see the video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g426J4Uh2m4

9. Angelina Jolie – Best Supporting Actress, Girl Interrupted

A gothic looking Jolie waltzed onto the stage to collect her Oscar, and decided this would be the best time to announce that she is in love with her brother.  Yup, she actually said that.  Yes, it sounded incestuous.  No, they were not in such a relationship.  But it still sounded WRONG.

8. James Cameron – Best Director – Titanic.

Mr. Cameron obviously wanted to be Leonardo DiCaprio for the evening, so he allowed the words ‘I’m King of the world!’ to come out pouring out of his mouth.  How shameful.

7. Tom Hanks – Best Actor, Philadelphia

Tom hanks was so grateful to his drama teacher for his influence and guidance that lead to his Oscar trophy, that Hanks decided to tell the whole nation his teacher was ‘the greatest gay American he had ever met’.  Even though his drama teacher had not told ANYONE he was gay….
Whoops.

6. Roberto Benigni – Best Director, Life is Beautiful.

Life was certainly beautiful for this Italian Director when his name was called, that it lead to a suprising moment of madness.  Instead of walking along the floor towards the stage like a normal person, Benigni thought it would be a good idea to walk across the backs of people’s chairs.  How this man managed to do this all the way to the stage and not fall off any of them is beyond us.

5. Julia Roberts – Best Actress, Erin Brockovich.

If you ever need lessons on how to appear eccentric, arrogent and just plain annoying in one go, study Julia Roberts’ performance when she collected her Best Actress Oscar.  Not only does she laugh consistently like a hyena being tickled by a feather duster, but she addresses the show’s conductor as ‘Stick Man’ and tells him to put his stick down.

Click here to see the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZV0YbYECU7A

4. Cuba Gooding Jr – Best Supporting Actor, Jerry Maguire

Gooding Jr made his character in Jerry Maguire so lovable, we were over the moon when guy won for Best Supporting Actor.  But when he proceeded to jump up and down the stage proclaiming his love for every person he has ever met, our ‘aww, so glad he got it!’ changed to ‘Oh sweet Lord, get off the stage.’

Click here to see the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cnCMqr1QRQw

3. Sally Field – Best Actress, Places of the Heart

Many had said that Sally Field’s gush-a-rama whilst collecting her Best Actress award set the bar for over the top self appreciation speeches.  She was so happy to be liked at that point in time.  But do we still like her now?

2. Halle Berry – Best Actress, Monster’s Ball

The reason Halle Berry is not at the number one spot with this blubber fest is because her genuine shock at being the first African American woman to win an Oscar swept her along a wave of emotion, so it is expected that her millions of thank yous would be mixed with tears, snot and body convulsions.  She is only human after all.  But it was still shameful to watch.

1. Gwyneth Paltrow – Best Actress, Shakesphere in Love

There are no words to describe the pain of watching Gwyneth Paltrow accept her Best Actress award.  So find the full transcript of her speech below.  If you do not throw up whilst reading this then your strong stomach is truly worthy.

"I would like to thank the Academy from the bottom of my heart! I would like to thank Emily Watson and Fernanda Montenegro, and my friend Cate Blancett and the greatest one who ever was, Meryl Streep. I don't feel very deserving of this in your presence, but I would like to thank Harvey Weinstein and everybody at Miramax Films for their undying support.

“I wouldn't be in this auditorium, let alone up here, if it wasn't for two incredibly talented men; our director John Madden, thank you so much for all that you gave me, you are so inspiring, and to my soulful partner, Joseph Fiennes who I share this with. (starts crying).

”I would like to thank the rest of our miraculous cast and crew. Our producers Donna Gigliotti and David Parfitt...I didn't forget you this time! (starts to laugh and sob). Especially, Jim McGill and Sophie Shant and my friend Ben Affleck. I would like to thank my wonderful agent Rick Kurtzman, who is a beautiful man and a wonderful agent. And in his case that is not an oxymoron! (why???) I would like to thank Harold Brown, Stuart Gelwarg and Steven Huvane.

“I would not have been able to play this role had I not understood love with a tremendous magnitude, and for that I thank my family; (jesus, more tears) my mother Blythe Danner, who I love more than anything, and my brother Jake Paltrow who is just the dearest person in the whole world.

”My earthly guardian angel Mary Wigmore. (crying loudly now) and especially to my father Bruce Paltrow (yup, more tears) who has surmounted any surmountable obstacles this year. I love you more than anything in the world. And to my grandpa Buster (oh my word, aren’t you dry yet???), who almost made it here tonight, but couldn't quite get here (huh??). Grandpa, I want you to know that you have created a beautiful family who loves you and loves each other more than anything (bored now) and we thank you for that. I would like to dedicate this to two young men who lost their lives very early; Harrison Kravis and my cousin Keith Paltrow. We miss you very much and I thank you. Thank you so much everybody!" (FINALLY leaves the stage with a river of tears flowing behind her)

Urgh!

6  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Day-Lewis and del Toro to star in Silence. on: February 02, 2009, 08:03:32 AM

Oscar heavyweights, Benicio del Toro and Daniel Day-Lewis are to star in Martin Scorsese’s new flick, Silence, according to Variety.

The period drama, which is based on the novel by Shusako Endo, will focus on two Jesuit priests travelling to Japan in the 17th Century on a mission to find their mentor and spread the word of the Lord, but face many obstacles when they arrive.

Gael Garcia Bernal is also rumoured to be involved in the project, but so far, it has not been confirmed which roles have been given to which actor.  This will be Day-Lewis’ third Scorsese movie having previously starred in The Age of Innocence, and Gangs of New York.

Filming is set to begin later in the year and will most likely take place in New Zealand.  No distributor for the movie has been confirmed at this time, but that we expect that to change pretty soon.

Producer Graham King, who produced two Scorsese pictures – Gangs of New York and The Departed – is said to be self financing Silence.  In the light of the current economic crisis, he is a brave man.

If you’re not already excited about the impending Terminator instalment, then news of Danny Elfman scoring the soundtrack is sure to get you marking off the days to the film’s release date.

Elfman revealed to MTV that he has signed up to compose the Terminator Salvation score, and has already started working on the music.

However, it is not yet known if he plans to use Brad Fiedel’s original theme.

"I think if it comes up and it seems appropriate, we will (use it),” Elman told MTV from the Critics Choice Awards. “And if it doesn’t, we (won't).  I never really know what to expect when I begin other than just kind of get into it and have fun. Especially a movie like “T4” – just have fun. So that’s what I intend to do."

The Academy Award nominated composer who scored the Spider-Man movies, Good Will Hunting and Tim Burton’s Batman movies also revealed that he had seen a cut of the film, and described it as ‘exciting.’

11  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / New Street Fighter poster revealed! on: January 05, 2009, 07:21:07 AM

The rehash trend in the movie-verse is showing no sign of stopping as the promo poster for the new Street Fighter is revealed.

Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li stars Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog the boxer, Black Eyed Pea rapper Taboo as Spaniard Vega, Kristen ‘Smallville’ Kreuk as heroine Chung-Li, Neal ‘Desperate Housewives’ McDonough as the evil M, and Chris Klein as Nash.  Interesting line up, huh?

The movie focuses on the quest of Street Fighter character Chung-Li (Kreuk), and follows her personal journey for justice.

The Legend of Chung-Li is the second live action movie based on the popular Street Fighter video games.  The first was written and directed by Steven E. de Souza (Judge Dread), and was released in 1994 staring Jean-Claude Van Damme, Raul Julia, and Kylie Minogue

The new Street Fighter is directed by Andrzej Bartkowiak, the man behind Romeo Must Die, and is set to be released this March.
12  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Disney jumps ship on third Narnia film on: December 29, 2008, 08:05:55 AM

Will Prince Caspian be setting off on another adventure?   If he does, it will not be with Walt Disney Studios as the company have announced that they will not be co-producing or co-financing the third chapter of the Narnia films, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.

This means that Walden Media, the company behind the films will have to find another partner to help produce and finance the movie in time for the 2010 release date.

According to Empire online, Disney have cited “budgetary and logistical” reasons behind their decision to pull out.  And as the last movie Prince Caspian, which cost about $200 million to make made just under $420 million at the worldwide box office - compared to the $745 million its predecessor The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe made - so Disney are probably a bit nervous about taking another risk in the Narnia franchise.

But all that could change, so watch this space for further developments!

13  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Kidman and Luhrmann “will not work together again”. on: December 18, 2008, 07:46:12 AM

It looks like director Baz Luhrmann’s new film could be his final collaboration with Aussie movie starlet, Nicole Kidman.

The director revealed to the Telegraph online that he would not be working with Kidman again mainly due to the many emotional struggles they both encountered in their personal lives during filming.

"On Moulin Rouge! [Nicole] was breaking up with Tom Cruise, and my father died on the first day of filming.” Luhrmann told the Telegraph.

"The six weeks before we finished filming Australia, we were doing a scene where her character has to say she can't have children and she goes, 'Bazzy, Bazzy I've got see you,' and we sit down under a tree and she tells me she's pregnant and she burst into tears and I did too, because I knew that was what she wanted more than anything else.

"We both said we can't make another movie together because there are only so many life-transforming events we can go through."

18  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Guttenberg talks Police Academy 8. on: December 01, 2008, 08:55:21 AM

Just when you thought the movie world could not surprise you with yet another rehash/remake/sequel/adaptation, it pulls the possibility of a Police Academy 8 out of the hat.

Yes, that’s right; rumors of an eighth installment of the zany police comedy were confirmed by Police Academy star, Steve Guttenberg, who will be reprising his role of lovable rogue, Carey Mahoney according to Empire.
“We are doing a new movie and it is going to be great fun," Guttenberg said. "A script is being written and so far it is really great, everyone from the original movies who is still around will return.”
"I know Kim (Cattrall, who starred in the original movie) and Sharon (Stone, who starred in Police Academy 4: Citizens On Patrol) have been asked but they haven't said yes yet.

"It would be really great to have them on board."

But would they want to come on board???

The last Police Academy to grace our screens was back in 1994 with Police Academy 7: Mission to Moscow.

Guttenberg also revealed last week that plans for a third Three Men… movie with Ted Danson and Tom Selleck was also on the cards…

What else could he possibly bring back?

19  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / New Avengers movie "could suck" warns Downey Jr. on: November 27, 2008, 06:11:04 AM

Robert Downey ‘Fuck DC Comics’ Jr’s relationship with Marvel is a love affair that keeps on growing.  The Iron Man star even took time out to talk to MTV about Marvel’s plans for the upcoming Avengers movie due for release in 2011.  The film is set bring together Thor, Nick Fury, Captain America, the Hulk, and, surprise surprise, Iron Man.

“The danger you run with colliding all these worlds is (director) Jon (Favreau) was very certain that Iron Man should be set in a very realistic world,” said Downey Jr.  He then adds “Nothing that happened in Iron Man is really outside the realm of possibility. Once you start talking about Valhalla and supersized super soldiers and jolly green giants it warrants much further discussion.”

The actor, who is set to reprise his Iron Man role in the Avengers flick is just as concerned as the rest of the comic reading community with how the movie is going to turn out, and what it could mean for Marvel.

“If we don’t get it right it’s really, really going to suck,” said Downey Jr. “It has to be the crowning blow of Marvel’s best and brightest because it’s the hardest thing to get right. It’s tough to spin all the plates for one of these characters.”

We are all equally as nervous.  But excited!

20  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Could this the first picture of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter? on: November 19, 2008, 05:29:06 AM

Could this the first picture of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter?

This picture has been spreading across the Internet like wild fire, but as it is not an officially released picture, many are questioning its authenticity.  Is it the real deal?  Or could it be two pictures of Johnny Depp as Edward Scissorhands and Sweeny Todd photoshoped together?  You decide.

The Pirates of the Caribbean actor, currently starring in Tim Burton’s adaptation of Alice in Wonderland, joins an all star cast including Burton’s other half, Helena Bonham Carter, Alan Rickman, Anne Hathaway, and Matt Lucas.  Australian actress Mia Wasikowska has been cast as Alice.

The movie is being filmed  in England, and is set to be released in 2010.
