T. Ross, THUNDERDOME is a pretty decent effort.  Just don't go expecting the awesomeness that is MAD MAX 2.  The only real problem with it (in my honest opinion) was the cheesy element of Max having to protect a group of kids.  Luckily the sappiness and cutesiness are kept to a mimimum.  And there is the awesomeness that is the thunderdome itself -- "Two men enter!  One man leaves!"

Only in Hollywood could someone like her be considered hideous.  In real life she'd be the cute receptionist you flirt with while heading to your cubicle.

Egads!  Imagine the lame humor we would've ended up having to suffer through involving Elastobaby!   Definitely dodged a bullet there!!!

Fanboys seriously need to get a life.  A SEX life.  Johannson is so smokin' hot that I'd watch her in anything.  Its also pretty damn awesome that they've finally locked in Rourke.
5  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Joss Whedon's Next Project on: March 11, 2009, 08:19:32 PM
Despite being shrouded in secrecy a few tidbits are starting to leak out regarding the latest project from Joss Whedon.  He'll be co-writing and producing the generically titled THE CABIN IN THE WOODS.  Joining him is CLOVERFIELD writer Drew Goddard who'll be the one behind the camera this time.

It also sounds like it'll be some sort of horror movie based on this quote from him who while discussing the project's young, relatively unknown cast members had this to say, "These are people you care about, able to go toe to toe with the amazing actors we've corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can't wait to harm them."  Those actors are Bradley Whitford (NBC's STUDIO 60 ON THE SUNSET) and Richard Jenkins (last seen in the Coen brothers' BURN AFTER READING).  The previously mentioned young casts consists of Kristen Connolly, Chris Hemsworth, Anna Hutchison, Fran Kranz and Jesse Williams.

The film is currently shooting and wille be released on February 5th, 2010.

So what are your thoughts, kids?  Will we soon be finding the internet saturated with the same kind of cryptic viral promotion used to transform CLOVERFIELD into a monster-sized hit?

I definitely agree about Chris Evans.  He's one of the few young actors who I think has a nice blend of good looks, charm and talent.  But he's so much better off not having to ever deal again with such a cinematic skidmarks as THE FANTASTIC FOUR films.

Dal, I can get behind that.  And she does indeed kick most "actresses" asses right off the screen.

Sheridan, sounds like they really crack the whip over there across the pond.  Here there's just a box where you can dump them in when you leave.  I kept mind as a souvenir but have suddenly realized that all these films are using the same REAL technology.  So you can bet I'm gonna pay to see something else and then sneak into MONSTERS & ALIENS with my "souvenir".

9  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Re: The Birds remake could be in 3D..... on: March 11, 2009, 07:26:37 PM
I'd love to be in 3-D just so I could punch Michael Bay in his goddamn face!
10  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Re: Mad Max 4: The anime? on: March 11, 2009, 07:24:58 PM
A REMAKE?!  Are you guys serious?!!! Do you know what you're gonna end up with -- Some bland pretty boy (off some CW show you've never seen before because you're not a fourteen-year-old girl) driving around with CGI cars and explosions occurring all around him.  The villain will turn out to be his long-lost brother who went mental because he was spanked as a child.  Yadda-yadda-yadda.

I actually thing an amine film would be awesome because then you have no limits when it comes to the chase scenes.

BTW -- How much longer do you think the 3-D thing'll go before everyone tires of it yet again.  It went about six months in the 80s with the death knell being a "comedy" about Steve Guttenberg turning invisible.  (It also doesn't help that the theatres are charging another 3 bucks because of it.)

On another side not, what's with all the hate on his sister Maggie???  Guys commented on how ugly she is.  I think she's adorable.  And not afraid to show her rack in movie after movie.  (I'm almost positive there's a scene of her flashing The Joker currently residing on the editing room floor).  What more could you ask for?!

If nothing else the movie will be gorgeous to look at.
13  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Re: Final Wolverine Theatrical Trailer on: March 11, 2009, 07:09:21 PM
Is this even a Wolverine movie?Huh

I LOVED the first trailer but this one has so many characters featured in it that Wolverine seems like an afterthought in his own movie!

I think box office wise it'll do well but if its as bad as rumored it'll drop like a stone second week as worth of mouth sets in.
14  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Re: The Brits continue to conquer the Oscars - Slumdog and Winslet reign supreme! on: February 27, 2009, 01:36:39 PM
Ecccchhhh!  I can't even watch the Oscars anymore!  They're nothing but politically-driven stroke jobs.  I mean does anyone out there truly believe that Sean Penn deserved to win over Mickey Rourke?!  I saw MILK and thought Penn did his usual solid job but Rourke he made just as much of a comeback as Robert Downey Jr. this year needed to be recognized not only for THE WRESTLER but his sublime work as "Marv" in SIN CITY as well as such 80s classics as DINER, ANGEL HEART and POPE OF GREENWICH VILLAGE.

Secondly, I agree with Sheridan about JUMPER.  And Hayden should have won for Best Actor for not only his effort in this film but the STAR WARS TRILOGY too!
15  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Re: Seth Rogen's GREEN HORNET Has New Director on: February 27, 2009, 01:29:54 PM
I gotta go down as being one that really disliked BE KIND REWIND.  The sad truth is that Gondry is no writer.  Both REWIND and SCIENCE OF SLEEP (which he also wrote) definitely had some fun elements but the storylines just aimlessly wandered about until the final credits rolled.

The good news is that since Gondry is only directing HORNET he'll be able to focus more on his incredible visual eye.
16  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Seth Rogen's GREEN HORNET Has New Director on: February 25, 2009, 08:59:20 PM

THE GREEN HORNET, which entailed the exploits of a crime-fighting newspaper publisher and his martial-artist chauffeur/sidekick Kato, started as a 30s radio show and been adapted into several media versions including a 60s television series (with Bruce Lee playing Kato).  A feature film version feels as if its been in development just as forever.

But it looks like Seth Rogen's comedic take could be the real deal.  Based on a script by Rogen and his writing partner Evan Goldberg, the project initially had Hong Kong actioner helmer Stephen Chow doing double duty both behind the camera and playing sidekick Kato.  Chow however had a change of heart and dropped out of the former while remaining in the latter.  Now comes word that a new director has signed on.  And its definitely an interesting choice indeed.

That director is Michael Gondry, a true visual storyteller who I consider only second to Terry Gilliam when it comes to surreal, dream-like imagery.  His past efforts include the excellent "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" as well as "Be Kind Rewind" and "The Science of Sleep", which he also wrote.

Rogen puts it like this: " "With the permission of nobody, I sent him our script ... to get his input and ideally convince the studio to meet with him. They were skeptical of ... I wouldn't say his ability to make a giant budget studio movie, but his willingness to make a giant budget studio movie. But he loved the script, he totally got it, which a lot of [potential directors] just didn't."

Gondry loved the "Green Hornet" script so much that he filmed an action sceneto show to the producers, "To convince the studio to let him do it, he filmed a fight scene on his own," Rogen marveled. "He just hired stunt men and did it by himself! Just to show some of the stuff he could do, some of the weird filming techniques he has and some of the stuff he can pull off. I mean, this is something he did in two days and it was instantly unlike anything you've ever seen before. It was impossible not to hire him once he presented what he could do for it."

"["The Green Hornet"] will be a great combination of both of our movies, of both of our styles," Rogen said of the film, which hits theaters June 25, 2010. "It should have the type of conversational tone and comedy that me and Evan have been doing — and some of the action that we have been starting to try to do — along with the wild, visual imagination and funny awkward sensibility that he's been doing."

While I'm still of a wait-and-see mindset regarding whether the SUPERBAD-style can smoothly mesh with a full-on action movie (as opposed to PINEAPPLE EXPRESS which was more of a comedy featuring action scenes), I am seriously amped to see what a visual genius like Gondry has up his sleeve for this kind of material.

If nothing else it'll certainly be more interesting than the current action standard of sped-up, shaky cam incoherence and Michael Bay-esque, ADHD-riddled editing.

But what are your thoughts, fellow Morons?

I hear Coke is coming out with a diet version of it.  So there you go.

I will be checking it out very soon!

BTW -- One remake I've becoming increasingly curious about is LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT.  I saw the trailer with VALENTINE and found it pretty haunting.

"Manjuice"?!

Ewwwwwwwww!
20  Movie Moron Forum / Movie News / Re: Friday the 13th slaughters box-office records on: February 18, 2009, 04:15:36 PM
I could go either way on this one.  While I enjoy the series I don't hold it up there with such horror classics as SUSPIRIA or TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE.  I just hope its as nearly as much fun as the BLOODY VALENTINE remake which I thoroughly enjoyed.

On the other hand, as a screenwriter, it depresses me that based on these kind of numbers the remake processing machine will now shift into overdrive and the original horror film (Anybody remember one of those?) will become even more of an endangered species.
