Depp to play Mad Hatter in Burton’s Wonderland.

The movie industry’s most successful partnership continues to go strong as Tim Burton teams up once again with Johnny Depp for the remake of Alice in Wonderland. 

Fresh from the success of Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street, Burton has chosen Depp to play the Mad Hatter in the multi-million pound live action remake, which will be shot in 3D.  The Lewis Carroll adaptation, which is to begin production next year, will be Depp’s seventh movie with Burton.  He will be starring along side Australian actress Mia Wasikowska, who has been cast as Alice.

The Burtonised Alice.. will be financed by Disney, and should hit our screens in Summer 2010.

Now, who is willing to bet money that Danny Elfman – film score composer frequently attached to Tim Burton’s movies, especially those which have starred Johnny Depp (except Ed Wood and Sweeny Todd) – will also be involved in the project?

What's interesting to me (beyond an adaptation of Alice by a director who was born to do it) is that the film industry is once more turning to 'novelty' 3D/IMAX formats in order to pull in audiences. It's the same thing that happened with the advent of television: film clutches for something to bring the bums to the seats. Cinerama, Cinemascope, Vista-Vision and low-grade schlocky alternatives like smell-o-vision, scream-o-vision . . . anything-o-vision, really. And here we are now, with Tarentino and Rodriguez churning out homages to the schlock and studios putting serious money behind 3D technologies.

The internet is doing to film now what television did to film in the 50s.

Yeah, seriously, with all these 3D movies coming out, I'm starting to wonder when they'll finally re-release Jaws 3.  The only thing more dangerous than a shark, is a shark in 3D!

Does anyone know anything about the horror film Alice thats suppose to be in pre production, and Marcus Nispel ( Texas Chainsaw Massacre remanke, Pathfinder, upcoming Friday The 13th) was set to direct it, but imdb.com removed his name off the project.  Does anyone have an update?
